Japan is the headphone paradise, and here's the proof

Yup, there's a yodobashi and a Bic camera near hakata station, but I personally liked to go to the yodobashi in tenjin a few blocks away from the Apple store, it's almost somewhat hidden and somewhat in an outdoors/indoors area.

Thanks. Why do you prefer the Tenjin Yodobashi, though? Bigger? Better range? Was just a more convenient location for you?

Saw this thread for the first time today and I am stunned by the number of headphones available to demo before purchase. I have lived in or near several of the largest cities in the US and have never seen anything like it. Wonderful.

Because they have used and bargain bins, more than the one near hakata and the others. Also it just looks cooler because it seems like a fish market but for electronics, and it's more for gear nerds than casual people.

Okay, I'll try to check it out.

(Edit: Oh, you mean the Bic Camera at Tenjin? I was wondering why I couldn't find a "Yodobashi Tenjin".)

Does anyone know of some good shops in Nagoya to try out headphones? I go every year and I find Bic Camera to be great for the selection you can try, but I was wondering if there was any other, maybe specialty shops I could visit in the Nagoya city area.

I got a chance to visit Japan and checked out some electronics shops.  Almost every model (other than the really expensive ones) has display model for you to demo.  Here are some pictures from a Bic Camera store (famous big chain):

At this Yodobashi store (another big chain), there were probably 10 isles dedicated to headphones and IEMs.  This is just about 1/3 of the area:

Even smaller stores has a lot of headphones on the wall for you to try.  This particular high-end audio equipment shop had a few Stax on the wall:

What also surprised me was the amount of free catalogs available, even from several American brands.  I couldn't afford headphones with the expensive exchange rate, so I picked up a few catalogs to satiate my appetite.  Wish they have these in big chain US stores.  (Btw, one thing I hate about these catalogs is that a lot of items are listed as open price, so you can't get an idea what class each one is at by just looking at the catalogs.)

The tradition is just so different, in my country, something remotely similar are only from cheap, china made plasticky ones with tons of fakes... And even that people still try to steal from. Demo only available on small headphone specialists store like Jaben and Headfonia.

I'd just like to point out that the Headfonia Store and Headfonia are in no way related. Mike left Headfonia when he started his stores.
