Introducing the Audeze LCD-R!

With the Master 10, it was set to a low volume level (15-35/99 I think. Lower than 15 seemed not to be good), then I use a Chord TT2 as the source/volume control. The LCD-R actually needs near zero power (50mW to get to 120dB!). IMO the problem is that at 2 Ohms, anything that can't deliver near instantaneous current (ie: anything not a speaker amp, or designed as one but with lowered gain for headphones) will result in weak bass. I think this is because, compared to a 32 Ohm headphone, it requires ~4x the current. I even found that the Studio Six, which should be fine, can't drive them well enough to give good bass either. Someone better versed in amp design can correct me if my understanding isn't right.

I only have a Master 9 (which I haven't tested them with for a while) and an R-27HE, which works well with them (though I haven't tried movie soundtracks!) so I'd go with something along those lines with a large volume range. That means Master 9P, HE-9, Ragnarok or similar.
Ah right, I forgot that the Master 10 is a straight power amp with no pre-amp function. I should have done a bit more research before posting.

Thanks for the insight, always appreciated from you. I may give it a whirl at some point with the 700i which has insane ranges of pre-amp volume control options and is meant to handle 2ohm speakers, but it makes a lot of sense that amps really aren't prepared to just be happy with a constant 2ohm continuous load. 50mW for 120dB is nuts and it's obvious that the LCD-R barely needs much to get them going, hence my fear of introducing a 500W into 2ohm load. I might have to look into a resistor setup vs just plugging them in to the 700i with speaker taps.

They sound decent out of the Jot-A, but we all know that there is more to be gained with a better amp. I just don't want to blow up expensive (and exclusive) headphones or an amp.

Don’t read too much into this quote from Wojtek at Ferrum..or be like me and do:

So in conclusion I think you have accept that hiss if you still want to use OOR with LCD-R. I was also told that we might think more about driving such headphones in the future products

Thanks! Have you had an experiences with one in particular? Or anything you recommend for the LCD-R / OOR?
You're gonna have to make your own since the LCD-R uses a unique cable configuration. It's not hard though, just a couple resistors like you see in the picture in that thread's OP.

Well, the person I was supposed to buy my LCD-R from says when he tested them before shipping there was a channel imbalance and the other new in box LCD-R that was listed here sold in the meantime. So it looks like I'm not getting it and I won't be doing all sorts of testing for you guys :(

Double sucks because after I paid for mine, I went ahead and spent $175 on Mitch's non-refundable filter. The day after buying the filter was when I heard the bad news and got refunded by the seller.

So I guess if anyone wants to sell theirs, let me know...

Nah, you can just use any old audeze cable for lcdr if you are using it on normal amps

Are you aware of any impedance adapters for even standard pin XLR? I'm not. I've only seen them for single ended.
In either case I think he'd have to make one.

Sorry to hear that.
They really need a rerun for these... 67 units is ridiculous

Still pissed that West germany had a flooding issue during release, which prevented me to buy them...

There may still be hope. Looks like the original seller is still going to sell them to me when they're back from Audeze. Presumably will be a couple months though.
Sorry about your flood difficulties.

I thought it was already posted, but searched the thread and didn't see 'Oratory' - Here is his measurements and a preference curve for Harman. All that matters are the measurements though. Just GEQ if you don't want to get PEQ technical.

Great Find! Thanks for sharing @M3NTAL. I have my EQ based off of Resolve's settings and then tweaked to my own preference. Will be nice to try the Oratory EQ as well.
