Just one point of contention. The LCD-R rolls off pretty ****ing hard sub like 50hz if not even higher

I do not believe you can argue the variance of maple wood color constitutes a QC compromise.

Woodworker here. Real simple: every tree is different. And no tree has the exact same grain or color throughout. This is what makes wood such a cool material to build with!

This isn't a wood color variation hut a stabilization color variation. Looks to me like the finishing oil used on most before the stabilization (how you typicaly get the super saturated vibrant color my set is) was skipped. That said, I think I prefer the lighter set tbh

The lighter color one looks more like the one in the promo photo IMO, but it is a manipulated photo. I knew when I ordered there would be variation just by the promo photography though.

Sarcasm? Seeing and holding thr lcd-r's in person, they exude luxury and quality build. To me, the lcdr design is a work of art. No comparison to hifiman, and this is coming from a fan of hifiman sound but not so much their build quality.
