Introducing Shanling M8T - New Flagship Portable Android Player with Tubes

Mar 3, 2025 at 2:10 AM Post #376 of 563

Enjoying some tube magic.

First Impressions.
It is the most powerful DAP I’ve tested. The bass is punchy without being bloated and the sound is pretty balanced. A little warmer with the tubes.

Let me burn it in to get a true impression, but so far the word is astounded. Last tube dap I had was the sp2000t and was nowhere close.
What do you mean by punches? Why I am asking, I am one of those that likes a controlled bass, like a decent class A accuphase amp, but not a pushy in your face bass. (Some love that, but I am not a fan of it) so curious to your opinion

One issue I'm having though, is after about 2 hours listening, the music scrambles and sounds like it's being played at 2x speed. Doesn't matter what app I'm using. I have to pause and wait 20 seconds and then it resumes fine. Did a factory reset which I thought solved it but it has returned. It seems like the longer I listen the more it happens. Odd one.

I faced the same bug on the demo unit after fiddling for a while. It gets pretty warm and the music starts to play at faster pace resulting off tuned music.

Latest firmware for M8T is still the V1.13:

@Shanling After installing the new firmware, I am still experiencing the issue with music starting to play faster/ get scrambled once the unit warms up. Is this issue being looked into, or is there a known fix? If I hit pause and wait 20 seconds or so, the issue goes away for another while, but it is annoying nonetheless.

It was reported to our software team, so far no update on it.

How can I disable charging on my M8T? Is it via the settings?
IN USB DAC Mode, click the USB Charging icon in top right.

Anyone else having this issue? @armstrj2 if it’s just you and one or two others having this issue, it might be worth starting a warranty claim.

Yikes. My M8T arrives today. If I’m having the same issue you and @armstrj2 are having with the track playing at 2x speed, I’d be inclined to reach out to the retailer right away.

Unless @Shanling wants to chime in, I’m not convinced it’s a software issue, and in any case I wouldn’t wait for warranty to expire while waiting for a firmware update.

It is more of an inconvenience than a significant issue. Or an annoyance, at least. At a guess, I would say it has to do with thermal management and can be fixed with a firmware update, so I will give Shanling a chance to fix it before sending the unit back. I use the DAP daily, so I would prefer not to have to send it back if possible!

Totally understand! Would be tough to be without your daily source. Hopefully Shanling can address it quickly.

Do you recall any exact condition that might have caused it?

We are checking on it.
As it's speeding up playback in software, it's definitely a software issue, not hardware.

Sending you PM, wanna check on some more details.

I only remember, both times it was streaming Tidal and I had been listening for a few minutes.

@Shanling any info regarding a FW for the charging issues and the LO automatically going to high gain? Is there anything in the works?

Every time shut the M8T down it closes out the song i'm playing it goes to a big white blank screen for about 5 seconds than just the start up screen I have the resume switch on and it still does it am I doing something wrong am I missing a setting.

I noticed that my IEM's need to be turned up to 65 tp 70 to get the same volume as the M5 Ultra on 25 to 40 both are on medium gain is this normal even the M6 pro,M6 pro 2021 and M6 ultra runs about 50 volume to get same results

last the M8T is called the flagship dap why is the software for it much less as good as all the ones I showed above like no gapless and other features
