Introducing Shanling M1 Plus - New Generation of Compact MTouch Players at just $209

And Spotify?

We would love to. But Spotify seems to be such corporate you can't even find a real person to talk to.

I doubt it. I don't believe that they have even verified Tidal at this point (like the M5 Ultra).

Tidal is included on M1 Plus, but we are currently working with Tidal on adjusting its performance for the new Tidal setup (Without MQA).

Some countries have bigger distributor and bunch of dealers, some have just one dealer. Countries around the world differ.

Asona is distributor for Canada.
You put in warranty claim with your seller.

There are random sellers from China that list our products online, often time they will have it listed even if they do not have any stock. Like Aliexpress and Shopee is overrun with them.

If you wish to purchase from China, Linsoul is our official International Chinese dealer.

To clarify a little bit about these questions on Chinese sellers of Shanling:

Linsoul is a Chinese seller that works directly with our International team and acts as our official dealer.

Following are official dealers of our Chinese team and our team has no connection to them. For any questions, warranty, product support, etc, you need to reach out directly to these Chinese sellers, we will not assist you with products sold by them.

We apologize for any previous confusion.

Chinese dealers:

Aoshida, Dilvshi, Shanling Official Store (Aliexpress), Bright Audio, EG Audio, Woodes, Kaitn, Shenzhen Audio, Haoda, RedAudio, Takstar Audio, GoldenAudio, SoundtechAudio, Global Hifi, Natures Audio, Lnefan Audio, global101, **** Earphones, Angelears Audio, MagicsAudio, Angeldac Audio, Dudo Audio, timeuaido, LXDAC audio, Orange audio, AKhifi audio, pinellia audiop, Mercury audio, Grave Audio, Melodic audio, LuckLZ audio, CIFI audio, SA Audio, Yaoyaotiger audio, Beteran Hifi Audio, Geekaudio.

Exactly the explanation I was hoping for. Wasn't sure if these stores listed above on aliexpress and elsewhere were recognized Shanling dealers or getting there stock from unofficial channels.

Glad to see Shenzen Audio is an official Shanling dealer as I liked buying from them in the past. Even though you deal with them for any warranty issues they offer 2 year warranties on the products you buy from them and their prices are usually pretty good. I might be willing to take a chance on a relatively cheap DAP like the M1 Plus and buy from them again for the extended warranty. That is assuming there are no major issues with the M1 Plus and time will tell on that front as feedback comes in from users.

I would argue user experience is worse on R4 because its slow android, plus a lot of audio fans don't like android.
Do you have specifics, like a study or survey? Or is it all just conjecture and hearsay? For example, you asked your office friends if they don't like R4, and they all said no. My gut says you don't even have the R4, yet you have all those "negatives" checked out. Android 12 on R4 is as spiffy as it gets - no lags, no stutters, streaming apps like Tidal, Qobuz, Apple Music, Spotify function smoothly.

Alright, so M1 Plus is better than R4 but I hope the sound quality also better than R4 or equal because I ask people here about Shanling house sound and most of them don't like Shanling tuning, they say it's dry, cold, bright, etc.
I am just waiting for reviews before I buy M1 Plus or R4 or maybe R3II.
R4 is superior to m1 plus in practically most aspects - DAC, processor, build, operating system, customizability, screen size. And finally, sound! Yeah, I have heard both and I now have the R4.

The audio specs are quite similar between the two devices, in fact the M1 Plus is slightly more powerful. Just stating published data here. No idea on the processor comparison though... ;)

1 dac vs 4??? Hear both of them first before making conclusions!
There are 4 DACs, but really it's 2 DACs for the PCM audio path and 2 DACs for DSD audio path, there is no situation where the DAP is utilizing all 4 DACs at once. So you can't compare 1 dac vs 4. As you said please hear them before making conclusions, I ask you to please do your research before posting.

A few points, or queries/questions for Shanling ….

Charging: when I connect it to charge a red light around the volume wheel lights up. What is supposed to happen when the unit is fully charged? Last night I connected it and the red light stayed on. After several hours, it was still red. Yes, the battery meter was full, but is it actually full? I ask because that red light stayed on until about eight hours when it finally just turned off. Is it supposed to turn green or is it supposed to simply turn off. Because after seven-ish hours the red light was still on.

Battery life: so, presuming the battery was fully-charged I went out today and used it constantly for around two hours. Low gain, screen 50% brightness but mostly turned off as music playing. Volume set to 65/100. Playing FLAC files. I’ve been using it for just over an hour here at home and the meter is very low. Perhaps another two hours max? So I’m looking at around 4-5 hours. Okay, it’s still new and it’s only been charged once so the battery needs to settle in. So what I'm looking at today is going to be low estimate 4/5 or high 6/7 hours. Is that around what I should be expecting when it’s thoroughly settled in?

Bluetooth: I’ve been using it out over two days now. I’m experiencing an issue both days, with the sound constantly glitching on and off when I’m walking around. I’m mostly sat in two locations and it’s fine. When I’m walking around, and heading through the city to go home the unit is in my jeans pocket and it’s basically unusable as the sound is on/off/on/off constantly. This is just when walking. But around where I live(four miles outside city centre)this does not occur and it plays fine. So I’m guessing the sheer proliferation of signals in the city centre overwhelms the antenna and it can’t sustain the connection. Possibly due to a low spec antenna set-up? Okay it’s a new unit and there will be glitches here and there while issues are encountered and subsequently solved with firmware updates. Any thoughts on this?

I’m not overly concerned about anything at this point; it’s only two days in. The walking around glitching is annoying but for me I tend usually not to be listening to music when walking. But still, it’s annoying.
Sitting here listening at home again, I’m very happy with the sound quality and really do love the design and hand-held usage. Yes the screen is very small but one accepts that as a trade off for getting a device that feels small even when compared to my iPod Classic, which I still own and love.

- For charging indicator, if the unit is powered off, the indicator will be off. It will only stay red only if your device is active or in standby mode. In this case it will pretty much stay on even for long time after battery is fully charged.

- For battery life, please be aware that the simple battery meter can be in-accurate. Just because it shows low level doesn't mean there isn't even few hours left. Especially if it's brand new unit.

You can test to run it from full charge to moment it turns off.

- For Bluetooth, what exact headphones, which codec and which codec setting are you using?
Please make sure the screen of M1 Plus is facing away from your body for ideal signal.
