Introducing MOMENTUM 4 Wireless

Something to do with attaching from Google drive. Now downloaded and attached again above. Hopefully there now....
Looks like Wavelet isn't allowing the file to import.
I've even tried to rename it without any of the underscores...no go.
Tried renaming it with just the name with filter.txt, but still unsuccessful.

I don't think the M4W is listed has having Aptx HD. However, android developer settings suggest it's compatible and sound keeps playing when I select it.

Sony Xperia 5iii FWIW

When I select Aptx HD the audio gaps then plays normally. Android claims it's 44.1khz 24bit. The sennheiser app says "no audio stream". No audible difference though (as we should realistically expect).

On the Xperia 5iii with Aptx adaptive the phone also has a pop up stating the headphones are compatible with Qualcom Snapdragon Sound. From what I have read this enables 96khz sample rate at 24bit. Not sure what this achieves as android resamples at 48khz anyway so upsampling to 96 isn't going to discover new information in the stream by magic.

I actually suffered a couple of issues in normal use with getting a mono audio only. M4 connected to PC and phone in parallel. Needed to restart M4 and phone to sort it out. I did test that it was mono by going to the android accessibility audio settings and using the left/right balance and finding it equally effected both ears.

Its listed as APTX HD. No gaps on my FiiO DAP or my Pixel 6 phone. In fact APTX HD is used by both.

Edit: If there's gaps or interruptions, disabling bluetooth for other linked devices while not being used is worth trying.

Sorry, the gap is only at the point of switching codec but not after. So, not a problem but an indication that something did happen at the point I changed it in developer settings.

No issues here. This screenshot is while active with a TIDAL stream on a Galaxy S22+, firmware 2.9.3; aptX is the active codec for the stream. No wind noise feature updates in the firmware pack.

Screenshot_20220916-045419_Smart Control.jpg

Codec is detected on my Sony Xperia 1 II smartphone on the Sennheiser Connection app as APTX ADAPTIVE with Android 12.
Maybe try to deleting the app and reinstalling?
Not sure why it's not showing...do you have another phone or tablet you can try?

Haven't been able to try a lot, but nor my old phone (Android 11) or Pixel 6 (Android 13) show anything there. The system itself shows me the codec used is APTX HD. Its not that bothers me, I know the app its not the best ever, I was just wondering.

Will check next time if I use other player apps, but it wont show anything while on Spotify or Neutron. Haven't tried Tidal as I no longer have a subscription, I ditched the service long ago.

Thanks for the input!

We appreciate everyone's feedback about the app. We have published a handful of updates (app and firmware) and are absolutely working on the next iteration of fixes and features.

Thank you for the hard work and looking forward to the next update(s) to the app.
I would like to know if it is possible to add the volume level, artist, song and album being played?
These features is something I miss from Sony's headphone app here on Sennheiser's Smart Connect app.

Thanks again.

Thx for the suggestion! I'll forward this to the dev team as a feature request 👍

So I just bought a pair of Sennheiser Momentum 4's.

I was using some Sony WH-CH700N's but thought I'd give myself an upgrade.

I have a Samsung Flip 4 phone and using the Sony's was great as I could allocate the NC button on the Sony's to use Alexa. I could keep my phone locked and folded in my pocket, press the button on the Sony's, hear a prompt tone, say the name of the song and artist and it'd play from Amazon music.

The Momentum 4's seem to be a big step back in functionality regarding this.

I try to go into the Alexa app and add the Momentums as a new device but they aren't found. The first time I pressed the button on the Momentums after set-up, a choice came up on my phone screen asking which voice assistant I wanted to use. I chose Alexa. So then I could press the button on the Momentums, ask for the song and it'd play. But... it won't work when the phone is on the lock screen. Pointless really.

Searching Google points to the Sennheiser smart control app having an Alexa button in the settings but it's not there for me.

I can't even figure out how to switch between voice assistants?

Odd how some pretty cheap Sony's have much better functionality... unless I'm doing something wrong?

I found a solution of sorts, but still have an unresolved issue.

The Flip 4 phone has a cover screen. This screen is fairly limited to what it can do as stock.

However, someone has developed an app called 'cover screen OS.' This app allows you to open apps on the cover screen.

Using this, and with the screen set to 'always on', you can open Amazon Music on the cover screen and it will respond to Alexa voice commands without having to touch anything on the headphones or the phone. And it stays active.

So with this solution, I don't have to press the button on the headphones or touch anything on the phone.

It's a nice solution.

What is still unresolved is how, after choosing Alexa as the voice assistant initially for the headphones, do I unbind this choice and choose either Google Assistant or Bixby instead?

A poster on Reddit has dangled a carrot saying they can swap between voice assistants on the Sennheisers, but hasn't shared how it's done despite my asking? On the M4's, after initial set-up, I pressed the button on the 4's and on the Flip 4 screen it asked which assistant I'd like to use. I chose Alexa.

But now I cannot choose or switch to another voice assistant. There's nothing in the Sennheiser App. Choosing different assistants in the phone settings doesn't change the behaviour of the button on the 4's. It still invokes Alexa.

Three factory resets of the 4's done, uninstalled and reinstalled the Sennheiser app three times but still the button is tied to Alexa. In fact, a factory reset of the phones doesn't appear to be that because the latest firmware stays intact and any personalised EQ profiles.

Contacted Sennheiser but no response.

So I've now got a button on the 4's that is Alexa specific and can't be decoupled.

If anyone knows how to switch between voice assistants on the Momentum 4's, could you help me out?

Many thanks if you can... @ericpalonen maybe?

I'm looking for a pair of ANC headphones and I'm tempted by the Momentum 4, but the reports of driver imbalances I've seen in reviews on the web as well as on here, Reddit and on YouTube are concerning. Is this something Sennheiser can remedy via a firmware update, and is it being looked into?

No audible imbalance / variation between L and R in my unit.

I first read about this in the Sound Guys review, but they did not explain why they did not ask Sennheiser for another unit. Driver imbalance is something that CAN happen to any headphone out there, and most likely a QC issue with the hardware or even the assembly of the drivers and very own headphone.

Haven't read any reports in this thread either.

I've been clicking around to try and spot a trend and based on # sold this is a fraction of a fraction of a % without an obvious thread connecting them. We'll keep investigating but I see no reason to be concerned. There's a 2 year global warranty to back you up and most Authorized Sennheiser dealers offer terrific support as well. I'm here to help so hit me with any questions you'd like @An_Ape_named_Joe . Cheers!

That's reassuring. I'll order a set and see how I get on. Thanks :)
