iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

I've said it in the past, I'll say it again: the ifi ZEN Stream is simply a great device, and its worth every $!

Thanks, and we're very happy that we could include HQ Player in this platform :)

I've been working with Shawn at iFi about the documented issue here that I and a few others are having which is when using Tidal Connect over USB, whether using AIO or Tidal mode, with a Schiit Bifrost 2 (with Unison USB) I get a loud, prolonged buzz sound when I pause the music. I have tried various USB cables and an iFi Purifier USB and still get the buzz.

Second issue is on some select Tidal Masters tracks (the entire Freya Ridings masters album on Tidal) I get static-like pops throughout the album over coax connection but NOT over USB. I have tried multiple coax cables and the problem persists.

Other than those issues that iFi is looking into, the Zen Stream is fantastic! It's works well and the sound is exceptionally good! Very noticeable upgrade in sound across the board from my Macbook Pro that I was using for streaming before. I love it!
As there was a request for a summary of current issues with the zen stream.

I'm having the second issue above (consistently reoccuring sound of static electricity at specific moments in songs using tidal connect, only). I have also been in contact with Shawn at iFi. I did not try to switch to a USB cable as I want to stick with my newly purchased COAX cable, which I also predict my DAC prefers for sound quality. Until the issue is fixed, I'm sticking to Tidal HiFi via Connect.

Yes very happy to learn how to run HQ Player thru Roon. Once set up it seems rear switch must remain in #1 - All In One. It’s not possible to go to #2 Roon?
I am not sure as I do not have HQ, however I actually thought it was position 4! lol

Maybe @Louisiana could shed some light for you..

Cheers!!

#4 - NAA

HQPlayer use the NAA Protocol:

HQPlayer takes over the "finished stream" from Roon, so to speak, does its work - upsampling -, and then forwards it to the ifi stream in its own NAA protocol.

As you can see here, in HQPlayer preferences:

@rudy49 Someone can correct me here if I'm way off, but that warning is a network issue, not specifically a ZS issue, meaning you've got some things to work out on the network side of things.

I am not sure what In all you are running there but I always see other windows open in the screencaps you are posting, and I also use a Mac and again I have no idea if these things are running or not, but you have an awful lot of icons in your menu bar, and indications of other programs open that can contribute to your streaming quality.

Try disabling all those things running and close all windows but your streaming source and see what happens...

Cheers!!

Maybe a feature request...

Let mode 1 default to "play nice with all" as it does now but allow customization via the interface to disable/enable available services in this mode. This way you have a "play nice with my friends" and not more impact on SQ then required for your services.

PS: I'm trying to find out where I can find release notes for the updates as posted above. Anybody knows?
