iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

AIS offers a wireless router with 100GB worth of download data per month included in the package, probably not enough for 6 hrs. of 24/192 listening per day? it specs out at only 10mbps. the router talks to the cell tower. wonder if this would be a good match for the ZS? looking at the Netgear stuff $$ and i think overkill for my needs. just need this for streaming music. one LAN port to the ZS would be just fine.

Either way think you will be happy, biggest thing to keep in mind is the data for sure! 100GB goes by fast.

Hey guys, so sorry for the long absence but there's this little thing called life that gets in the way sometimes.

In my time gone, I have checked 2 other BF2's from friends of mine and for the life of me I cannot reproduce that buzz, again I'll say that it's definitely software based, just at what point I'm unsure.

Just wanted to let you all know I didn't forget about the issue. I also see the posts where Coaxial did the trick, that's awesome.

For the new review and observations on the Zen Stream I'll comment this having done the same tests.

@antastik Please recheck your findings in regards to the Zen Stream vs. Digione. I to have done the same and concluded that the Zen was a much better meatier presentation. Please Use Coaxial , and Coaxial and repeat your listening.

I have stated from pages and pages back that the Zen Stream and Digi sound is very close, however please don't use the BNC against the Coax. Do the test with Coax vs. Coax, trust me there is a difference, Cheers, and welcome!

I may...(May) have some more info by the end of today, but I am finding interesting bugs in Tidal Connect? lol

Cheers!!

Dear Bubba, interesting observations. I will try also the coaxial case, even though I will not be able to avoid BNC, because my Dac requires that sort of connector.
Regarding my previous comparisons, I think they were accurate. I made them on both headphones and loudspeakers and the difference was there, albeit small. The limits of my comparison obviously lay, as you noticed, in the fact that Digione was coaxial BNC and Ifi was usb. Can you describe also your setup? Everybody else would be more than welcome to comment. Cheers

My "Setup" is a never ending story!! 🤣

I by no means am implying that you weren't accurate in what you heard, please don't take it that way! I was merely pointing out that for some reason on The Digione, the BNC shows a slightly better image than the Coax, why I have no earthly idea but I would not be the first to hear or make that claim. In all honesty both are very very good, and I would never tell anyone that the Digione wasn't a great buy, it's just to me the Zen (Apples to Apples) edges it out very slightly, and you dont have to play with small screws!!

If you can try avoiding the BNC with an adapter if possible, I have done that a couple times, or by using an RCA to BNC cable, not the best I know but it's what we've got lol.

I was away for a few days, by away I mean on the couch... So much hasn't been done with my new area. I would love to say I have a dedicated setup, I have decided to redo another area for that, it will be my peace and quiet place, lol.

Heres a pic for now of how bad my main listening area has gotten, since my problems began!!

Crowdsourcing time!

We would love to hear what the biggest issues you've experienced with the stream are, and if you fixed them, how you did! Please include a sentence on your setup and how you resolved it if you figured out a fix.

82 pages is a lot to scroll through, so I figured we'd work smarter and not harder, so I can cross-reference everything we have already sent to our factor/programming team to make sure nothing falls through the cracks!

Thank you!

(Also, if you genuinely love it, they'd love to have a few reasons why if you do!)

I love it. Had one tiny issue with the lights not turning off, but after the last software update it's never happened again.
So really it's been faultless.
It sounds amazing. Works consistently and reliably with Roon.
Enabling me to stop using my desktop PC as my source, the Stream sounds so much better in every way.

I've been working with Shawn at iFi about the documented issue here that I and a few others are having which is when using Tidal Connect over USB, whether using AIO or Tidal mode, with a Schiit Bifrost 2 (with Unison USB) I get a loud, prolonged buzz sound when I pause the music. I have tried various USB cables and an iFi Purifier USB and still get the buzz.

Second issue is on some select Tidal Masters tracks (the entire Freya Ridings masters album on Tidal) I get static-like pops throughout the album over coax connection but NOT over USB. I have tried multiple coax cables and the problem persists.

Other than those issues that iFi is looking into, the Zen Stream is fantastic! It's works well and the sound is exceptionally good! Very noticeable upgrade in sound across the board from my Macbook Pro that I was using for streaming before. I love it!

Maxing out the buffer, turn off opptions i do not use. Use 2.4GHz wireless with no other devices using it. My neigbours are prob. not using 2,4GHz band all. The brovser app show 72 mb. speed. Jitter on an app shows very low jitter. This sett upp have been 100% stable for days now.
with the Qutest i clarly Prefer USB than bnc/spdif Canere cable. Blacker background, higher reselution.
Ps. My experience is strictly using Qobus with mConnect.

i am still having connection issues with Tidal and Spotify. music stopping and losing IFI icon in Tidal app. reboot, reboot. my ISP will be upgraded with a new router and faster connection 70/70Mbps. the Saturday to see if this resolves the issues before i ship it back. even though the ZS losses the connection the track will default and continue to play on the Macs internal speakers. same issue with Spotify
