If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

Shure KSE1500 or 1200.
I had a chance to demo these. They sound every bit as transparent and clear as the Etymotic but there was this really lush midrange that felt expansive and had great separation and imaging. It made me hear so many new sounds in music that I didn't notice previously.

The Dita Answer Truth Edition sounded similar to the KSE1500 to my ears. It also had the detailed analytical treble with a lush transparent midrange.

They go for around $800.

What might be an "upgrade" from the ER4 XR?

In the upper $1k - $3k price ranges?

Some 7 driver model?

What would be a good $$$$ iem for us "treble / clarity / no bass hype - just accuracy" fans?
I found the UM Mason V3 quite neutral and balanced with excellent clarity and spacious soundstage. Perhaps sonic-wise it could be an upgrade in that price range.
I didn't find the universal fit comfy though, due to the 2x16 drivers the housing is quite big. It is probably not an issue with custom fit. It is also built like a tank.
I can't justify however the $2699 for it.

Does anyone have recommendations for an ER4SR/XR cable that's suitable for sleeping on with my face on the pillow?
I've broken countless ER4 cables over the years from doing this. It always frays at the 45 degree angle joints connecting to the driver unit. I've tried the MMCX adapter for ER4P from ebay that makes it a 90 degree unit and I broke two sets of those too.

I got the ER4XR thinking I could use the cheap $10 Shure MMCX cables on aliexpress, but I was dismayed to find out it requires the special type of MMCX connector and the cheapest cables are still around $40-50.

What are my best options?

This is part of the why behind my request for these...

A special request from a member to help him build these: a somewhat unusual 2 pins to mmcx adapter with 4P configuration for his old ER4 and a more conventional right angled adapter for his new ER4.

I wear mine if I wake in the night and that's hard on the cables. I'm now able to swap in cables, and am no longer reliant on what can be very uncomfortable adapters, or having stock MMCX connectors popping out of the XR 'female'. ClieOS has really done something that'll improve my quality of life.

I need a new, simpler MMCX cable but these are now my backup set...

This is my main set - the XR, with ClieOS’s adapter meaning I can slot in stock cables.

Looking good. I really want to try those eartips but they are not available here :frowning2:

Be careful though, I heard mmcx is only rated for 100 or so changes though. If you unclip and clip in the mmcx everyday, thats only 3 months before it fails.

I am definitely way pass 100 times on plugging / unplugging my ER4SR's MMCX.

Ping me a message re the tips mate - maybe I can help.

Re the cables, it's all good - far less of a problem than the stock Ety cables failing on me repeatedly.

Etys are not perfect. What is perfect in high(er)-end audio?

But the fact these little buds offer sound quality that rivals other IEMs/headphones for 8-10 times the price is very f*ck*ng exceptional.

I have found my perfect IEM for my 5-6 flights a year. For this little use I didn't want to spend a lot on IEMs so went for the ER3XR. (I tried flagship ANC headphones and they suck.)
After buying the ER3XR and being this happy with it I might actually support Etymotic by buying the ER4XR even though I hardly ever use IEMs.

I like the Sony EX1000 and Empire Ears ESR. I'd demo them.
