If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

Just ordered an ER4SR from Amazon for $199. Will be used with an iPhone and Apple dongle, probably with my MacBook sometimes too. For IEM’s all I’ve used for the past several years is true wireless buds. Looking forward to something truly neutral and super detailed.

The only good earbuds I have currently is an old but still working RE-Zero that don’t get used. I had a VSonic Gr01 that fell apart a few years ago. I’ve been using mostly full size headphones, and TWS buds. Looking forward to trying a BA IEM again.

So I broke out the RE-Zero to try to get myself a little more used to less bass than I’m used to. I have to say that after a few minutes of adjusting, these sound great.

I also set up an EQ on my AKG N400nc TWS buds to get them to sound closer to what the ER4SR should sound like. Looked at a graph comparing the two and did some quick and rough EQ.

I know only 1000 of the RE-Zeros were made and most of them probably aren’t even working anymore, but by chance does anyone have these and an ER4 that could tell me how close they are?

Those aren't the large. I guess you could call them medium instead of "standard."
So it’s not any of these?

I assume the standard are the ones that were on when I opened the package. ER2 only comes with two sizes of triple flange tips. I want the larger one of those but I’m not sure what the model is called.

er2se is that good? I has mc3 before, which is using dd, that series is not really nice experience to get, too forwarded mids, too narrow stage, probably tuned to be matched with ipod touch series sq.... ah I mean tonality

Just got my ER4SR and gave them about a 5-10 minute listen. Came home on my lunch break to walk the dog and eat and I listened to them for about 5-10. I can already say that I’m glad I got the SR and not the XR, as the bass output of these will be just fine. (I already have plenty of more bassy sounding headphones and TWS IEM’s.) There is definitely some sub bass as well. Mids and highs seem about where I’d want them. Again, it was just a 5-10 minute quick listen. I’ll be listening to them as much as I can tonight. Initial impressions of the fitment with the tips that come on them seems like it will be fine as well. They went in nice and deep without a ton of effort and I’m thinking I’ll be ok with the deep insertion.

More impressions to come…

Just listened to the newly acquired ER4SR for the last hour and 15 minutes or so and I’m liking what I’m hearing. The comfort is fine as well. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the deep insertion, but so far so good. I sampled a whole bunch of mostly progressive rock and metal that I’m familiar with and a couple quick jazz songs too. I’ve been listening to the HiFiMan RE-Zero for the last few days to get myself ready for these and I’m liking how the bass on those and the ER4SR is lighter and not masking other frequencies. I’m feeling like you notice more of other things in the music when there is less bass.

*I just had dinner and now I’m listening again and I’m still impressed. Also decided to look at the test paper.

Also, is it me or does this look like a very exceptionally good channel balance? All the channel matching is within half a dB, and the sensitivity is within .1.

How does the ER4SR sound with the Chord Mojo? Looking for a sound that is neutral, balanced, detailed, and with a large soundstage.

I just got the ER4SR yesterday, and I’ve only used them with the Apple dongle so far, but I’d say they are neutral, balanced, and detailed for sure. Not sure if I’d say large soundstage. They definitely don’t feel congested though. I’m just not experienced enough with IEM’s to say that the soundstage of these is average or above or below average.

I highly encourage you to try Oratorys 1990's EQ, just without the Bass boost, it will add a lot of soundstage...
