I picked up one of these for like $50 with a case, lucky me right! But normally they are 87 for the board

iFi's take on this kind of device isn't in production so there's that! As to why move away from usb? Well here's your first compelling argument, anything that has a single shared power/data USB input. The issue likely isn't the device, the pins are set for each, but rather it's your PC... either not having sufficient power output or who knows! USB should be convenient right? But it get's less and less convenient the more devices you have or connections you try to manage. For Example I have a USB Mic some times my PC thinks it's an output device -.- it's not so I just disable it but in the past I've had issues with it

Anyways were de-railing a bit. When your PC and OS are at 100% USB is dandy! But rather than wonder or work at getting back to 100% just skip it, that's what I've done

Non the less we will see what they recommend. The $50 self powered hub may also work as it'll likely have the pins right ofc but also the actual power output to have the right voltage across the right pins

The name of our S/PDIF converter was iLink, though it's no longer manufactured. As for separate USB data&power lines, both nano and micro iUSB3.0 devices provide that and a lot more, they sort a number of USB related issues efficiently.

Please feel free to take a look here for example:

It’s bad for lithium batteries to be at 100% all the time. It’s better if they do cycles of charging between 20% and 80%. And it’s better if you charge them to 60% and then disconnect them completely (you still need to do a charging cycle every few months). For a heavy desktop usage where you intend to have it plugged in forever I recommend something without battery.

Which is why in "desktop mode" (always on), micro iDSD only charges the battery to 80%, not 100%.

For LiPo batteries there are two things that reduce lifespan; one is staying for prolonged time at 100% charge, the other being discharged below the minimum discharge voltage.

Discharging excessively is prevented by multiple protection circuits. And by limiting the charge state to around 80% when the unit is on, the user can choose to avoid excessive battery aging, simply by leaving the unit plugged into an active USB port and leaving it permanently on.

It's called 'smartpower' for a reason:ksc75smile:

Btw. folks, were you aware that today is the Star Wars Day?

I can’t stand the Star Wars May 4th nonsense. It’s just trying too hard IMO. I may be the only diehard SW fan that feels this way, but it is what it is.

And you of course can dislike it, that's perfectly fine in our book.

Nice Vagrant Story avatar, though :beerchug:

I do love that game, I really should replay it soon. Although I don’t remember the soundtrack quality so something like the BL might be too revealing.

I'm seeing the blue charging light with the Micro left on but the computer turned off. Is this really the 20%-80% charging or is it charging to 100% from anywhere? Does it manage to recognize it's a computer somehow rather than a straightforward charging source? That sounds very strange to me.

Blue usually indicates charging. Is your computer fully off or in a sleep/hibernate mode?

Hello! My current chain while using Ifi Micro iDSD BL goes like this: iDefender 3.0 > Gemini 3.0 cable > iPurifier2 > Micro iDSD BL > HE1000. Any suggestions what else to add in order to make it sound even better? I've been thinking about getting ISO Regen or 5V iPower for iDefender next. I also have Matrix X-SPDIF2 but when I added it to this chain it didn't seem to make any difference in SQ (works wonders with Marantz HD-DAC1 though.)

You're missing galvanic isolation in your setup, hence it sounds like a plan to try our iGalvanic3.0 and see howw it works for you.
