iBasso DX80 Bug Thread - Post Any Firmware Bugs/Issues Here

Dec 19, 2015 at 7:13 AM Post #301 of 1,489
So, is it true that there's no need to use the player as disc? There's no disc inside?

Sorry for these stupid questions... I was so sure that the Ibasso dx80 had an inside memory...

There is no user accessible internal memory for music storage. From what I understand there is an internal memory which stores the operating system (program that runs DX80), this will not show up on your pc/laptop.

Any storage/music file memory needs to be directly from either micro sd card slot.

They will only show as external drives on your pc/laptop if you have cards inserted.

My DX0 has been very reliable during the added hours of use I've accumulated.  Not much to update here which is great.

I'm not sure this is a bug but a quirk I see with 1.1.4...

When switching between digital out and headphone out playback, a paused song will always return to it's beginning.  In real life this would never be an issue,  but inconvenient during an A/B of outputs.

Anyone experiencing low sd card write speed when coping songs through ibasso dx80? I was getting as low as 2MB/s through ibasso, but over 14MB/s when using card reader. I am using SanDisk Ultra 128GB.

Paul, unfortunately there is no change at all. nope.

I can not duplicate this. It may be tagging but I am not sure. We will have a new FW soon and maybe this will resolve some problems for you. If not we will work on it some more and try to figure it out.

I noticed a few quirks with the dx80.
- there is sometimes  microstutter at the beginnning of a song, really short stutter  0.1 or 0.2 seconds direct at the start.
- The same issue as with the dx50: sometimes it starts somewhere in the middle of a song.
Not a big deal, but strange nonetheless

Hi,

I have been using DX80 for about 20 days and i really like it so far. Have not had any issues with SD cards, line-out, and phone-out..
Firmware was updated to the most recent one v1.1.4. Main reason that i bought this DAP is as a transport of high-resolution files to my stereo system..

Annoyance is that when it is connected to external DAC with coaxial output, DAP will freeze and produce a loud static noise. Happened multiple times already. It always starts without an issue however after for about 15 mins to 30 mins, it will freeze...playing 192 or 96khz files is less problematic but 88 or 176khz will definitely do this within 5 mins or so.

The way I hook this up is: DX80 > Bifrost MB DAC (coaxial input) > Preamp > Poweramp. I tried it on Modi 2 Uber and same issue. Also tried with a different coaxial cable but i cannot seem to find a solution for this problem. If i do line-out, everything seems fine.

Has anyone experienced similar problem or is it just mine? I have about 10 days or so left to either return or exchange it... which i try to avoid as much as i could...

I do have a router to bypass this issue without using Bifrost DAC but it just bothers me to add an additional chain/device to the system that can totally be avoided if it just works...

Any thoughts will be appreciated..

The SD slot with my 128gb card doesnt seem to scan completely.

Every single time it gets to 41% it just stops, makes a clicking sound, and goes back to the play screen. Worst.

Are you Mac user? Then try to clean up the card from the stuff that Mac OS puts into it.

Thanks for the tip...damn. I wish that I had read the post before wiping and reformatting the exfat 128gb microsd into Fat32.

PS. how might i locate these files?

PPS. I should add that it only happens with my 128GB card, not my 64GB card

I'll report back if this works or not

Any chance you could explain what Mac stuff can be removed and how? Thanks.

I'm in no way a Mac user :) Nevertheless...

Mac OS needs to keep so called metadata with each file and folder it touches. On a foreign file system, like FAT32 or exFAT, it creates files with names started with a dot (.) for this purpose. Examples are:

.DS_Store
._.DS_Store (this one was created for .DS_Store itself!)

The worst that it means for DAPs is that it can create such metadata files with extensions of music files: mp3, flac etc. A DAP software tries to read such a file as a music file and may fail.

I know that there is a tool to eliminate such files before ejecting a removable media, but, being NOT a Mac user, I can only google for it, and here what I've found: Eject for Windows.

EDIT: True Mac users recommend "Clean My Drive". Added for those who would read this and miss the next post...

I use one on my Mac called Clean My Drive that removes the garbage from the cards.

@ Paul.  I sent you an IM and completed a contact submission form on the iBasso web-site.

I just got my new DX80, and well, it seems that the micro sd card that I have inserted into slot 2 is jammed.  It is as if the spring is broken or missing.  I originally thought that I had inserted a micro sd card incorrectly, but it is correctly placed, as music was scanned.  The card is just not removable (EDIT:  I was able to remove the card with tweezers, so at least I can get the card).  As the card is in slot 2, this will be somewhat problematic for any future fw updates or swapping of cards, and well, regardless of the slot, it should be removable without tweezer intervention.  Any assistance from iBasso would be appreciated.  I understand that these things happen, so please advise about either troubleshooting or replacement.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your problem.

Please get a sewing needle and lift the card out using that. You can press the needle lightly onto the side of the card and 'prior it' up enough to grab with your fingers.

Once the card is removed wait for Paul's response.
