Yeah seriously 🤣

I was honestly about to log off Head Fi for a few months as that was the only way I was able to escape last time.

And here comes iBasso right on time...
I had already logged off, planning to be back in 5 years, the ibasso pulls this and my "friend" (grrrr) tells me about it.

Why is this device labeled dx300 MAX, when it does not follow that Dx300 set up of using a Cirrus DAC chip? This is a new device needing a new theme labeling it.

This is using a 4499 AKM chip. AKM setups are usually very very hard to implement to sound good. Only good in that dmp-z1. There is a good chance the dx300 and the 220MAX will sound better.

220-->220MAX device name made more sense since they were both ESS Sabre dac setups.

Oh and can a USB-c to DC cable come standard with this device!!

Amazing how you arrived at that conclusion without hearing them / any reviews 👏🏼

Purchased the amp 12, wanted to confirm recommended connectors for standard earphones, believe I need a 4.4mm male to 3.5 mm female. Recommendations welcome, going to be portable most of the time so small is good..

Well I did setup my statement as a disclaimer. Not as an absolute....but I am pretty confident of my biase behind akm setups.

Email Paul from iBasso and see - they don't make the DX220 Max anymore but they might have an extra adapter or two lying around.

I got lucky and was able to purchase one last week.
But did you ask for the 4.4 to 3.5 cable? Because I have asked him and he tells me that he will send me an adapter for $ 15 but I want the cable like the one that comes with the 220max. Can you confirm that what you asked for is a cable?

Yes, I wanted the 4.4mm to 3.5mm cable that came with the DX200 Max and he was able to send me one (still in transit).

Also FWIW you can reach out to someone like Norne Audio, who can make as good and awesome looking a cable as anyone without making you break the bank (relatively speaking) and he can make you any type of cable you need, and if you give him details of what you're looking for he'll give you proper suggestions without trying to upsell you at every turn. And you can rest assured he'll wire it all properly, to spec (just give them to him of course).

I thought all of my headphone / earphones were 2.5mm, so I purchased an adaptor like the CA04, only to find that the female end was too small... Back to Amazon, purchased 3.5mm and hope to be able to listen to Amp12 tomorrow...

You should be careful there. If you "convert" a 3.5mm terminated cable to 4.4mm and connect it to AMP12's balanced output, you will be shorting the negative terminals of the amplifer. I am not sure if that is safe.

They are both balanced, here is the one I purchased as a replacement, any assistance appreciated https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PHY4XPL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I would be careful. As most 3.5mm cables are not balanced and are single ended.
You would need a rare balanced 3.5mm cable for this to work.

usually it is - balanced cable to - (adapter) balanced to single ended - to dap….

aka magic to normal - but people always want to go from normal to magic on the cheap - best to just buy an actual 2.5mm cable (and maybe a 2.5mm to 4.4mm adapter) or a 4.4mm cable.

imho
