I listen to music differently now, or at least I'm trying to.

I've recently became addicted to head-fi, which consequently made me become addicted to headphones. Lately I have been listening to my music and movies at volumes that were really too high, I thought if I turned up the volume I could hear more detail in the sounds, but obviously there was a side effect, loss of hearing.

I now get this feeling that my hearing is impaired. The way I describe it as if you just read a series of books very fast or a night of intense gaming, of course the next day your eyes are going to be sore and that is how my ears feel constantly now.

To counter that I developed a new method for me to listen to music. I am not sure but this has probably been done before and recommended by most hearing specialists. This new method involves listening to music on the lowest volume, still audible, but very quiet and mellow. I feel as though my ears adjust to the low volume and somehow I can still hear the details in the music. I am thinking maybe if I listen to things at such a low volume I will develop some type of acute hearing, thus reversing the effects of hearing damage. Not sure how this will work out, but it is worth a try and I am currently enjoying it. The ways I can describe this treatment is like going on an eating diet or sitting further away from a television screen. It might not feel good at first, but it will be better for you in the long run.

I've never posted in one of these "blog" spots before.

What you describe is actually very common. Thank goodness you figured it out before it was too late. It is a weird fact, that if you start listening at a lower volume, within about 5 minutes, it will seem louder and more detailed. I do this very same thing every time I go to listen. The benefit is more enjoyment of the music, no ear troubles and no guilt.
