That's the max supported resolution for MPEG-4, with WMV Simple profile it takes up to 480x270.

Blegh, as much as I like this player, when it comes to syncing it is a piece of crap.. Decided to delete all the music and put it back for once and for all. (indeed, with MM, I like it too) That was at midnight, came back at 1:30, and it was at ~1100 songs. So I let it sync while I was sleeping, it came from Infected Mushroom to the Verve, now it is stuck, and has, according to Content Transfer, 9,66g of "other" files, 1537 songs that are not placed in a map. I've scrolled though them, it is completely random. Arctic Monkeys to the Who and everything in between. But hey, it's only gonna take 20 minutes to clean it up << Aargh

not true I don't think - certainly mine will playback MPEG4/H264 at 432x resoltuion and looks great

I use 432x resolution H264 + 320kbps AAC - sounds and looks great

I use MP3Tag and MM to add cover art etc., but never sync my device with any of these.

It uses MTP protocol, so why bother? Just drag and drop!

My computer sometimes goes black for maybe a tenth of a second, and after that, some of the settings are back to default. (and after a few minutes it does the same thing again, and my custom settings are back) Annoying, and when it does so, dragging and dropping crashes, so for large amounts of data D&D is quite a risk on my computer. But from now on I'll only need do a few albums at a time, so back to drag and drop indeed

I have a question
smily_headphones1.gif
, is the x1000 capable of driving the ultrasone hfi-780 well? I have to raise my cowon d2's volume to 35-40 for the ultrasones to get loud enough, is this a problem with the x1000? any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

It drives my AKG K450 and Sennheiser HD555 without any problems.

Wow, that's what the spec says. Max supported resolution for MPEG-4 is 320x240.

Spec says for WMV :
Quote:

Media File format: ASF file format
File extension: .wmv
Profile: VC1 simple profile, main profile
Bit rate: Simple profile Max. 1,700 kbps, main profile Max.
5,000 kbps
Frame rate: Max. 30 fps
Resolution: Simple profile Max. 480 × 270, main profile Max.
QVGA (320 × 240)

I've spent a complete evening trying to figure out how things best work, here are my findings
  1. I tried to encode into 480x270 WMV but it doesn't work. I don't think it's the max res since the demo movies are in 432x240
  2. Since I only wanted the max res (432x240) I had to encode in WMV. MediaCoder crashes with WMV and the other doesn't support it or are too long. I finally chose Windows Media Encoder which does a good job.
  3. I really believe the max res in MPEG-4 is 320x240, 432x240 didn't work for me. How did you do Buckster with H264?

If you guys have other information please share them

So is H264
AVC
(H.264/AVC)
Media File format: MP4 file format, “Memory Stick” video format
File extension: .mp4, .m4v
Profile: Baseline Profile
Level: Up to 1.3
Bit rate: Max. 768 kbps
Frame rate: Max. 30 fps
Resolution: Max. QVGA (320 × 240)

Bet it got transcoded during transfer.

dikiz - I used Megui and Handbrake both with success, will look up exact settings, but it is a bit of an art

it has to be Basic Profile, without B frames, and non-anamorphic

I was surprised that 320kbps embedded AAC worked though !!

Andrew_WOT -I got the tip off it worked off anythingbut forums

when you transfer across it does think they won't play as it asks if you want to transcode - and I selected no

on the player itself if you bring info up ofr one player it comes up with:

(oops - sorry just realised actually 480 x is what I used so even better)

Resolution 480x256
Video codec AVC Baseline
Audio codec AAC

for Handbrake

select custom res, 480 and tick keep aspect ratio, anmorphic "non"

bitrate - well I went for ABR 1400

advanced settings:

ref=3:bframes=0:mixed-refs=0:weightb=0:8x8dct=0:me=umh:cabac=0:no-fast-pskip=1

note for Handbrake max bitrate for AAC audio is 192kbps - which sounds good enough to be honest

the Sony is VERY picky you only need one minor setting to be out of its realms of playing and it just will refuse to play, but the above settings should work perfectly

the 320x resolution max is for H264 "Main Profile" - for "Basic Profile" - which is the above - its 480x
