Interesting note I’m seeing here on the TT2 QuickStart Guide stating not to connect the TT2 directly to speakers but I watched the John and Rob interview by John Darko at 2018 RMAF where they stated you can connect speakers directly to the TT2 via the 6.3mm headphone outs, NOT THE XLR OUTS.

Who here has connected speakers directly to the TT2 and how did you connect them?

I’m using the rear XLRs, wired balanced, to drive high sensitivity 8 ohm speakers without issue (no overheating, etc.). I think the advice not to use the XLRs comes from people not correctly wiring the XLRs, either SE or balanced, and shorting the negative outputs, which is a real concern. But with properly wired connections, it should not matter which physical output is used, since they are all connected to the same electronics.

I have, on occasion, used the balanced out to drive my Klipsch Cornwall speakers. Never had any issues, but didn't really enjoy them out of the TT2, either. They were too polite.

I have not been on the forum for 10 or 11 months. My last big purchase was the Chord Hugo TT2 and the M Scaler...I have been so happy with that combination that I lost the urge to keep looking for the next best thing! I recommended the stack to a friend and just checked prices and it appears that both units now retail for $1000 more each than when I purchased them. Is that correct? It seems like quite a big increase in only one year. Just making sure I am seeing it correctly. Haha

No…. you’re not seeing things…. I’ve just become a new owner of the TT2 and MScaler and have seen the prices jump substantially here in the UK. Luckily I was able to negotiate a 7.8% discount which helps greatly.

I've noticed a similar pattern across a lot of HiFi gear. Tellurium Q cables, Sonore, Uptone, Naim to list but a few. I think the oR has gone up by more than 20% compared to just over a year ago. Shortage of electrical parts etc probably isn't helping matters.

Well, I am sure my wiring on xlr was correct but still the speakers (lower efficiency) were too much for xlr. Tt2 bust, so be prepared.

I was running a pair of PMC 25.22 via XLR for about 6 months. Sounded great and vol never went over -10db (near field setup).

However, the improvement in sound quality when adding the Etude was significant. It was only then that I truly realised how good the speakers and DAC combo were in terms of bass, soundstage and pace. The Etude is also a very fast neutral amp that really did compliment the TT2.

So, if you need to run speakers directly and they're sensitive enough, then it's possible but there is a risk and it's possible you may not be getting the best out of your speakers. Getting the right adapters made up is very important (wired correctly). I'd also only consider it as a short term stepping stone with the intention of adding a power amp.

As an addendum to my post recently regarding the Drop THX AAA Linear One amp, perhaps I need to clarify that it has, of course(!), the TT2/HMS as preamp....just in case it appeared otherwise lol(?!).

And to update further, after revisiting tracks I've used many times for assessment purposes over these past years, I can now confidently confirm that much to my disbelief, addition of this bargain basement unit outperforms direct out from TT2/HMS by a significant margin - and in any area you care to name (none being in the slightest inferior)....with upgraded 30V power supply, that is...

I've managed to get a cabinet from that famous Swedish flat pack warehouse and have assembled and fixed castors so I can place it to my listening preference. Holes drilled at the back to allow for cables and ventilation. I've moved the TT2 and MScaler with some of my gear over and will cable up shortly. Hope you all like what I've done. Any improvements or recommendations appreciated.

Looks good! Only suggestion would be to move mScaler to the bottom shelf for greater separation from TT2. This will also allow more room for the eventual ferrited cables you will have!

One thing I noticed when unpacking the TT2. It's factory fresh and was sealed. I noticed a tiny pin prick on the from fascia below the 'letter D' which goes right through to the bare metal. It's tiny but does anyone think it will become an issue in the future?
