AN 43k, Lam 27k, both are tube-based however Lam was specialised in Dac.

And, at this price point , just a matter of taste. The question is is one willing to pay another 14k for himalayan salt?

Dac in the market basically by know-how, built on technology, e.g. Dcs, msb, chord and newly wadax

Or work on off the shelf chip, e.g. Lam, Esoteric, gryphon, solution, mbl, busmester, goldmund and AN. These companies claimed that power supply and analogue state are equally important.

Maybe you might want to consider HQP, some said its wonderful

Guys, hope everyone is staying safe and healthy out there.

I am trying to make my M-SCALER work with the SOTM-200 in between SOTM-200 and the MUTEC MC3, so basically
SOTM 200 -> USB -> M-SCALER AND SPDIF OUT TO MUTEC MC3 , and then AES out to my DAC ( 192khz capability )
when I went this route, there is no sounds.

So I did Mac mini- USB-> M-SCALER -> SPDIF -> MUTEC -AES OUT TO DAC and this worked like a charm.

However I really would love the SOTM to work with M-SCALER if possible, has anyone got it to work?

I have to say that by adding the M-SCALER, it is really organic and musical ! and I wasn't even using any hi-end cables and
it already sounded better than the SOTM 200 route,,,,,, So I am betting that it is the M-SCALER that is doing the magic and
want to see how if anyone was able to get the SOTM200 to recognize it.

Before I added M Scaler in my chain, I would adjust the volume of my TT2 or Hugo2 on almost per song basis despite the genre of the music. Just +/- 3db here and there and thought that just the way it is.

After listening with the HMS for the past couple of weeks, I just realized that with it in the chain, I will not touch the volume for hours or only when I change genres like from rock music to heavy orchestra piece.

What aspect of the HMS’ functionality could be the cause of this phenomenon and can I improve it further?

seem like HMS has flatten the frequencies ( or successfully restored the original wave forms, as what it claims) , and flatten at one frequency will have the impacts in another frequencies, e.g. if the low has flatten, you will have better mid/high.

hence, no change to volume.

After getting the M Scaler settled in with the Qutest and upgraded cables in my main system I started looking for options with the “old” gear it replaced, mainly an Eximus DP1 which is a keeper for my amateur DJ setup (friends only) alone .... laptop with 1Tb ssd, JRiver, JRemote on iPad to Eximus then a powered sub and powered satellites .... but the Eximus also has a pretty good headphone amp built in too ... DAC is “only 24/192” though ... same maximum as the M Scalers toslink out ... no worries with any earth contamination ... what a pleasant surprise ! ...
176.4 via a 1 metre Toslink cable into the Eximus, plugged in my multi use HD630VB headphones and wow ... an M Scaled Eximus makes for a really nice headphone amp ... downside is I’m now thinking how good would it sound with some better headphones ?
Visa Card instantly ran and hid under the bed ...

An M Scaler power supply question?
We have a Naim system that is quite sensitive to power supply noise, so I am considering buying a high quality linear power supply for the M Scaler.

I understand that the power supply must not exceed 15V under any circumstances, so am cautious about buying a 15V supply in case it strays closer to 16V on occasion.
So, is there any reason not to go for a 12V supply instead?

maybe audition a new chord amplifier and see if it can replace your naim

using any other psu will void the warranty of your Mscaler

Have heard a chord amp demonstrated with an Mscaler at my dealer and was really impressed
Personally I don’t hear any issue of Mscaler adding any noise to many naim systems I have heard.

That's good to know. In that case, I'll keep the Naim amplifier, which bring us back to whether the M Scaler will run without detriment at 12V.

Why not use a battery, such as the Poweradd that is often used in this context. £100 or so, no possibility of feeding any bad karma back into the mains that might upset your naim gear, for it isn’t connected to the mains. Can’t participate in an earth loop for the same reason.

Thanks Andrew, that's an interesting alternative. Are these 12V or 15V? I only remember seeing 12V +/- the state of charge variation.
I have seen them readily available in the USA but the right models seem to be very hard to buy in the UK.

Advice on the right Poweradd model would be appreciated.
