I don't have them yet so maybe you can steer me in a better direction. From what I've learned, thy can't reach potential without an amp. I'll mostly be using them for music on my iPhone 4 and iMac that I will be buying in the near future.

I do like rap and dubstep (as well as alternative/psychedelic rock, and electronica) so richer bass is preferred, but I still don't want the bass to drown out everything else. I was looking at the Beats by Dre's, but my research on the net has told me they're way overpriced and mainly for the name and the fashion. But they do have better bass and I was wondering if full potential could be reached without an amp?

Anyway, if I get the HD 600s, what kind of amp should I get? I don't really wanna spend much over $400 total if I don't have to. Thanks.

one thing. DONT. BUY. BEATS. if you want freakn great bass on your iphone buy the xb500's or xb700's. they have great bass (i have em on right now) and if you want even more bass from them (like me) they respond quite well to an equalizer. and they cut down so much price from the beats

Do they need to be portable? considering that you're going to use them with your iPhone.

$400 all together I may go higher but let's try to keep it below $430. And what would you consider if I didn't want an amp and wanted full potential just with the headphones? I have pretty good bitrates for my songs...like 256-320.

Any number of small inexpensive amps can make the HD600 sound quite nice.

I would look for little OTL tube amps, for my personal preference. Little dot amps spring to mind immediately.

Hello Regality,

I've never seen a Beats owner pairing his beats with an amplifier before. I think they'd be better with a decent amp like FiiO E5/E6/E7/E11/Cmoy/PA2V2 and other cheaper amps. (E6 is not in the market yet) Alternatively, you could use a decent portable source like a Sansa Clip+.

Sony XB300~500~700~1000 are Sony's bass headphones. I've tried the XB300 and another XB (can't remember which) and they were pretty comfortable and the bass is very strong with this one

I don't know much about the HD600 but there are a couple of HD600 appreciation threads around. FWIR, if you like bass, you should get the HD650.

How bout this...are there any headphones that are Hugh end and cost around $250-350 that won't require an amp but can still be improved with one, yet still sound amazing just listening to an iPod?

One last thing I forgot to mention. I liked the 600s cuz the cord is replaceable. Are there any headphones that match what I'm looking for that have replaceable, detachable cables? Cuz my Audio Technica headphones I got had a cord that shorted out or something.
