didnt finish reading all of the post there but interesting   guess beauty is all in there eyes  ~ i wouldnt rule out something simply because its 20 years old tech
 
- i have an over 100+ years old pocket watch in my collection but i m wearing an Casio Tough solar latest model

Damn! I had to cancel my order a little while ago...just found out today that my car service will cost me a whopping $450!! ARGHHH...all I wanted was to get my inspection sticker

These are the same guys who concluded that a Sansa Clip sounds better than the 801, and described the PCM-1704 as "crap" because it's "outdated". Yeah guys, the dirt cheap Wolfsons in your 16/44 limited players are really state of the art. Idiots.

Those are what they called themself to be scientist.  They only looking at the RMAA graph and verdict a player has poor SQ.  They think a flat line graph means the best player.  For me, not really.....
 
Flat line graph may be a good approach.  However, there's tons of info that the RMAA graph won't display.  For example: sound stage, detail, reverb, output power.
 
Almost all of the recent Audio Player has poor output power.  This is one of the info that does not show on the RMAA test and this is one of the most important ingredients that effecting the sound quality.  This is why so many external amp introduce nowaday.

every thing happen for a reason in life my friend, 602 might not be necessity ~ but i think you need a car for more important things in life besides wouldnt running the risk of missing service when on the road ~
 
there will be 2nd hand 801/602 on the market and more over there will always be "THE NEXT BIG THING" (Steve Job) from hifiman if they continue to grow
 
buying house is big commitment ~ its pretty brave to take up that decision so either way i see you doing exactly right decision for yourself ~

He said he's going to replace filter chip and amp chip to AD8620, OPA2604 for better high and low freq extend.

Oh snap!  AD8620!!  Oh that will be nice, some Sflo2 users were gonna do that swap.  I loved reading the old forums debating the TDA chip.  Haters throwing graphs at people that thought the realistic timbre and sound was amazing.  Funny how history repeats itself.

it seems they have shipped 60 units of HM-602 and then they decided to do the upgrade (the first 60 could send it back for a free upgrade) ..(if google translate is right) .... that alone means a lot to me (depending on the point of view), they are constantly seeking better audio HQ...
