HiFiMan Susvara

How does the WA33 compare to the HSA1B for Susvara??
I feel the WA33 EE JPS is much better than the HSA1B for the Susvaras. Better soundstage, dynamics, bass, etc. The HSA1b sounds less crisp and detailed too. The WA33 costs more than the HSA1b, so I guess that should be taken into consideration too

Hi everyone, finally thinking of taking the plunge on these. Only thing is, after I spend all my budget ion them, I won't be able to upgrade my DAC/AMP combo for a while so I wanted to see if they could drive them reasonably well. Right now I have the Matrix Audio Mini-i 3 Pro (https://www.matrix-digi.com/en/products/489.html). It's far from the most powerful AMP (DAC is fine) but reviews say it punches above its price weight in that department. It drives my Empyreans and Rognirs with ease but of course these are nowhere near as hard to drive as the Susvaras. So I wanted to ask the knowledgeable folks here if you think this AMP will work until I can get a new one, or if I'm wasting my time trying to drive the Susvaras from them.

Thanks!

If you want these headphones, and youre thinking of upgrading amplification in the future, then get the headphones. You have to start somewhere. I don’t know how your amp will sound with the Susvara, but yes it is under powered.

Considering that my Shanling M30 can also drive them and is "listenable" with Turbo gain 1530 mW @ 32 Ω your amp should theoretically work too with 1900mW@33Ω, balanced for at least not needing to turn the volume up top 100.
Though I think the limitations and impacts of how amps react at the border of amplification can be different like brighter sound signature and it's up to personal preferences and limits for what is still acceptable (especially if you know how effortless your less demanding gear sounds on the same source)
Just my 5 cents.
Alternative: get a cheap but powerful amp like my used FLUX-FA10  in the meantime and hook it up to your old source

Thanks for the tips. I also don't listen at high volumes at all, so I think this should help.

Thanks!

don't forget though that the max volume on your current "underpowered" DAC/amp is not the only factor.
My M30 doesn't sound optimal though I cannot listen at highest volume too.
So you can have a more effortless presentation with tighter bass and more relaxed highs with better amplification still also listening at lower volume...

No it won’t. Don’t confuse volume with power or the ability to effectively drive a headphone or speaker.
Got it thanks

Agreed. Unfortunately not any used ones right now for sale. I’ll keep my eyes peeled though…

How did you guys commit to buying a certain amp? I have a shortlist of amps ranging from $1100 (Burson soloist 3Xp) to about $5500 (Enleum 23-R) and I just can’t commit to buying any of them. Did you guys go by reviews? Trade show demos? I only have reviews and worth of mouth to go by.
