Great that you both found your favorite HP. No need to worry if someone else prefers a different taste 🙂.

Sold my susvara

sold my susvara to get lcd 4z.... I had lcd 4, 4z and susvara at same time. 4z is my fav. Music has more body. The only thing I felt susvara Excelled at was acoustic vocals. It really just wasn’t for me
I don't know that I like the warm Audeze timbre that their headphones are going for. I had the LCD-2F and I vastly preferred the HD800 with a similar EQ profile for clarity. The 1K warmth is annoying for my ears.

has anyone had success driving the Susvara with low-power single-ended speaker amps running tubes such as 300b, PX4, VT52, 45, 71A?

what is the minimum power a speaker amp should have to drive these headphones?

I can easily endorse 300B. I have a Cayin HA-300 amp (which is both a speaker amp and headphone amp, though it's marketed as a headphone-first amp, you might say) and like the Susvara on it a great deal. Soundstage is as large and deep as I expect with the Susvara on anything, and it's not lacking for punch in the low end.

Used the combo extensively. Its ok in a pinch, but overall doesn't have enough power for the Susvara. If you try the bass boost with the Susvara especially, you will run into distortion at medium to high listening levels.

Can the Hugo 2 drive it?
No, the Hugo 2 cannot drive it. The Susvara headphones are amongst the hardest headphones to drive.

Kinda hard to believe given that they are 60 ohm headphones. The Chord stuff should have plenty of power when the impedance is relatively low.

Don't go by the impedance, it's more the sensitivity that determines how hard to drive a headphone will be. Consider anything below about 90db sensitivity quite hard to drive.

Yes, that's how it works.

I used to think the same but felt that the sound lacked meat when using Dave plus HMS. It was squeaky clean though - almost analytical but not musical.

Now using speaker taps on J2, I am finding out what Susvara can really do .. they bring the oomph to analytics.. it really is amazing :)

I use a headphone amp but I found the same with my BluDave. It’s like going from a 50 inch 8K screen to an 82 inch. Same picture but remarkable impact.
