HiFiMan Susvara

Interesting......I don't have that issue at all with the stock Susvara cable. And I don't find any degradation in sound quality either with the stock cable.
I think the cable is very high quality. If I'm not mistaken it's made of half silver/half copper. It's the "look" that's affecting the SQ negatively :)

question

since you have susvara do you use 800s or is that more just for decoration on the headphone stand?

have you tried 800s with eq

The HD800S is actually a review loaner from headphones.com that I've had for several months now. I was going to do a comparison review with the Drop HD8XX when that review unit came but it seems Drop either stopped the tour or just forgot about me. I had been getting "it'll be ready in 2 weeks...." over and over again, but then I just stopped trying to ask. haha.

I do listen to the HD800S, but its a tad bright for me at times. I mainly use the Susvara and HD600 at home.

I have EQ'd the HD800s to the Drop HD8XX recently and its quite terrible. Loses all its characteristics. I haven't really played too much with EQ on the 800S otherwise, but if I did, I'd probably just drop some of the lower treble down a little bit. The only problem is perhaps it'll lose some of its big open soundstage that makes it special.

I currently have a pair of HE1000SE and a pair of Sundaras (the version with the new angled pads). I find the sonic profile of the Sundaras perfect, as I’m considering upgrading from the HE1000SE to the Susvara, my question is: would you say the Susvara has a similar tonality to that of the Sundara? Thanks!

Can you link the new angled pads?

Susvara is Hifiman's best tuned planar headphone, it's closer to Sundara's tuning than HE1000SE but with no bass roll off.

To return to our favorite topic (on this thread), the Hegel H95 is quite a compelling proposition for the Susvaras (and the TC). All-in-one unit. Performance to price ratio is laughably high, given what high-end head-amps go for.

Got it in for a demo. Will post impressions in the coming days.

Just googled a bit.
Only RCA (but might not be needed for an all-in-one device), no Tidal-connect?, no mentioning of internally used DAC chipset, supported formats, bit rates, NOS,... but indeed quite compelling for the money.
Curious what you will report

I hope someone can help me with this: I'm currently using my HE1000SE using a fantastic eq (Fabfilter), and I love how it's sounding, I find it difficult to imagine how to improve that. Having said that, I obviously consider moving to a Susvara; my question is: has anoybody compared them both with eq? I'm concerned that using eq with both headphones they woud be extremely similar; or maybe the Susvara would show their superiority even in that scenario? Thanks!

No EQ in the world will save the HE-1000SE against the Susvara, only the output of your smartphone will help the SE rout from the battlefield.

a) Susvara has better timbre and tonality, way better balance.
b) Micro and Macro are quite a leap, HE-1000SE throws cotton balls at your head in comparison. Not saying it doesn't have decent slam. Susvara is just another league here.
c) superior soundstage depth and stable, focussed "dense" mid center. Less Tall but more focussed, round (cohorent) and dense.
d) You can kinda sense the per sqmm FFF aka Fang Force Field, similarly to the HE-6. The microdynamics are just absolutely stellar and as known part of the emotional connection to the music. Susvara really lives up to its sanskrit name and illuminates.
d) Susvara slams and punches harder, you can enhance this with ZMF Eikon Hybrid/Solid and go more towards the HE-6
e) Amping with the Susvara is like the HE-6. It's no joke.

Interesting suggestion with the ZMF pads.
So far I ve read only about Dekoni pads.
Are there any comparisons?

No EQ in the world will save the HE-1000SE against the Susvara,

Although Susvara is on another level and the price gap between Susvara and HE-1000v2/SE points that out rather well, but it's still admirable what HifiMan did with their entire 1000 range.
