HiFiMan Susvara

Am I missing something?

Yes. Susvaras aren't cans that instantly blow away those who can afford them. Instead they grow on enthusiasts who give them time, and along with it comes the understanding how different HEKv2 and Susvaras are, or rather how much of a gap there is between them.

I loved HEKv1 and I like HEKv2, but they're no Susvara

Do they have a totally different sound signature from the HE1000?
The 4z have better tone, timber and bite/punch than the HE1000.
I’m not sure that’s something that “grows on”, it’s something you hear from the first listen.
I can understand the Susvara is a step or two or (even) three ahead of the HE1000, but is it a different animal in its sound signature?

I wouldn't say that Susvara and HEKv2 sit at two opposite ends of the same scale, they're not that different. But upon comparing them it's quite clear which one is substantially better

Thank you.
That’s what I thought so.

Sure, anytime. From what I can tell you have a great setup, so if you can try Susvara with it, I encourage you to do so. I'm not going to say that it's going to be better than your Audeze cans, but it might bring just enough variety to become a keeper for years to come :)

I am going to borrow a friends Susvara once I receive my new amp. It's interesting reading this thread and comparing it to the 1266 TC thread. I don't see the same fervent enthusiasm with the Susvara owners as with the 1266 TC owners.

I haven't read through all 714 pages, but I am referring to what I have read. I could be wrong though.

Imagine what I am experiencing with the Susvara's from my Hifiman EF1000 that is connected to my Chord DAVE & M Scaler...... Just Amazing (best headphone system I have ever heard).....and on top of that amazing performance from my Focal Electra 1008 Be Speakers linked to my EF1000 too.
Sounds like an excellent system. I’d like to audition the M-Scaler with the TT2. Recently bought a Benchmark AHB2. Baby steps

How would you compare it to the Susvara and 1266 TC in terms of soundstage and bass?
With staging, it more directly competes with the VC where there is adequate width and three dimensional play but with a distinctive qualifier this is closed back. You just aren't ever going to get that border less breathe of a TC in a closed back design. However, much everything else reminds me of the TC tonality and presentation. Rognir feels like what you may imagine the Abyss closed would sound like. Slight v-shape response with minimal coloration anywhere. Starting from the bass, it's very tight, fast and punchy -- a VC will conversely show more bloom and appearance of body -- these are just hints of comparative bloat, the Rognir mids are very much fairly neutral with no lean into harmonic richness, a slight recess is present although I would not call it prominent or a commission of sin which blends to a treble extension that is very detailed and very smooth sounding. This, without question, a coloration that does the listener a favor of showing some forgiveness.

How that would compare to Susvara will be dependent on a listening preference. The Rognir shows its dynamic aggression where the Susvara is more passive and openly enveloping and provides a mid warmth that is pleasing that some could find missing cold from Rognir
This, too, a clear open vs closed tradeoff / dilemma as the Susvara is quite complete sounding.

I'd take Rognir without blinking.

Main reason is the Susvara doesn't have the same wow factor as the TC. Its wow factor is that it does everything almost perfectly, but doesn't really perform 'best' in any one category.. which isn't as sexy to many as say the TC's holographic nature and bass presentation.

However, they're on the same playing field that only a few other headphones are for sure, just in slightly different ways.. btw probably the best 2 headphone combo out there that is generally accessible to many.

For me personally, it is not either/or..

Since it is always a journey to a destination (musical nirvana) which only exists in my imagination, I can easily see the benefits and pleasures of a smooth cruise on a gentle yacht

and those of a bombastic flight on a luxury jet, each in its own time and place.

I can easily see and hear the sonic delights of other "travel" methods that are not even mentioned here as well

Consequently, I'd rather not exclude any of the two options under consideration, if I can help it.

Susvara is an amazing all around headphone

I think you will appreciate the contrast between the 2.

I think you need to work on how to be more descriptive with your replies. :)
