HiFiMan Susvara

Question for any Susvara and Niimbus US4/5 owners.
What Pre-gain do you apply? I was expecting to boost the gain for the Susvara, but found out that I am doing fine at 0dB gain, or 6dB max but definitely not more or the volume knob has to be below 9 o'clock.
Overall I am very happy with the Niimbus US5pro. However I would not recommend it to anyone who has already a decent amp to drive the Susvara, the cost/benefit ratio is not worth the high price tag.
I have a question for you, if you do not mind : If you're doing fine at 0db, then what other advantage might there be in setting the pregain higher or lower? Do you find that you require more or less head-room than you have at 0db, for example? (Note I am asking because my US4 is also set at unity gain now, and I am curious about what changing that setting might bring to the table)

Fried Reim once said that his amps are designed with the volume at 12 o’clock in mind, if I am not mistaken there is also a section in the manual. If you take the time to listen to the different settings, not just 1 minutes A/B I am sure you’ll end up with a preference.

Considering how demanding the Susvara is, I was trying to check if it makes any difference with higher gain.
On the A90, I was on High gain, around 10o'clock.
I was surprised that with the Niimbus I don't apply any gain, therefore curious of what the others are doing :)

I was on +12 when listen to Susvara.
Balanced in and balanced out, +12 db for susvara (I have dabbled with +6db but +12 dB works better for me)

With utopias and empyrean -12db and sometimes -6db.
-9db would have been somewhat perfect/better

I was extremely disappointed by the mid fi gear when I used it after totls.

Going down from the very top is painful at first, that's true. But appreciation towards good mid-fi cans returns rather quickly fortunately :)

Any speaker amps under 1k that would pair well with preamp mode of the TT2?
