HiFiMan Susvara

I asked hifiman, when does susvara v2 come out, they couldnt tell. What do you guys think?
Whenever Susvara sales slip notably over two months. Then wham-o, a redesign they have sat on for almost two years:

V2 will have redesigned magnets using aerodynamic modeling, have a better cable, and be flat black with "Susvara" in dark cherry red with a steampunk font. 😁

I'm going to TM that so they have to come up with some other marketing scheme to milk the gotta have it crowd.... Love the drivers, not fond of much else HFM does - although post sales support has improved per reports.

They should take a page from Meze / ZMFs with either limited edition designs or alternative build materials (i.e. befits its price), if they haven’t been able to find out how to improve upon the Susvara sound yet.

I agree that post sales support is very good. I blew my Susvara drivers last year from poor usage with a speaker amp and tube buffer and I did not have any problems with the process of getting it fixed within warranty.

I like the idea of the Ltd editions.

I think it's better than 50/50 that they already topped the Susvara internally. From what I can see they are selling more now than 3 years ago. Don't kill a cash cow is something they teach Juniors in business school.

Okay Fans of speaker amps : has anyone ever tried to pair a vintage NAD 2200 with a Susvara before? If so let me know your impressions. I mean this amp is really "vintage" and "cheap" now, but it has a reputation of being the bees-knees as a "hi-end" stereo amp in its hey day. It would seem like a very inexpensive way to test out the Susvara + Speaker Amp myth, that is, if one is willing to give it a go, which is why I am asking if someone has indeed tested this pairing before. All helpful reactions are welcome.

I would highly advise against using ANY vintage amp for the Susvara, just out of safety.

Actually, I'd like to see that :)

And maybe tweak the tonality just enough to create uncertainty among users over whether the new model actually has better technicalities or not.

So in other words, pull a "Utopia 2022".

Fair enough, but could you elaborate a bit on the safety aspect? I remember a time when vintage Bryston speaker amps enjoyed "highly recommended" status on the Original He-6 thread, but the associated risk used to reside in how high one cranked up the volume dial on the amp, which seems to be the same for any speaker amp to which the Susvara might be hooked via speaker taps... Are there any risks with "vintage" speaker amps (other than those associated with volume dial manipulation) that I should know about? This particular speaker amp does not seem to have any native volume dial, and might hence require an external preamp.

Full disclosure : I am asking out of mere curiosity about speaker amps (vintage/non-vintage), but I am not likely to purchase this particular one (NAD 2200).

I surmise he's talking about transient consequences. That means taking extra care with on/off cycles for vintage gear.

Most issues related to speaker amps and cans I'm aware of were primarily due to misuse, i.e. accidental volume knob set too far to the right. And some amps might not be happy about 60Ω loads connected to them

Agree. There’s no dark side to vintage amps. People haven’t seen a well professionally restored vintage amps. I have own several in the past and still have the monster Kenwood now.

Any powerful speaker amp will blow Susvara. Just need to use it with some common sense.

Replaced my susvara stock pads with the dekoni fenestrated sheepskin and I'm really surprised at how easy it was to tell a difference.

Sound is more open and clean, really clean. Sounds better at lower volumes, big plus for me. Male vocales and guitar have less body which is my only negative soundwise, other than that my ears touch the mesh but the leather is more comfortable imo.

They are like .5 cm slimmer than stock which is confusing to me how the soundstage sounds more open.

I think I'm going to keep them since I'm getting the ican signature soon (which is a warmer amp) to replace my timekeeper 3i because I'm constantly scared of the speaker amp (has no protection) lol.

6 months later, despite extensively demoing competitors such us AB-1266 Phi TC, LCD-5 or Stealth... nothing really changed.

Susvara with the pads is just timeless.

P.S.: Deva Pro with Eikon Hybrid pads (no dust covers) yield similarly versatile sonic experience in a wireless fashion.
Have you tried perforated? ZMF usually recommends the solids for closed backs and perforated for open backs
