Afraid to buy - there are a lot of complaints on the network (amazon) about construction and Q.C problem,
You can make a warranty claim if it does right? Mine is working perfectly so far, 20 hours in. I also did a few bass tests (20,30,40,50hz) and there is absolutely no driver rattle on either side.

For what it is worth, I'm still really enjoying my Sundara with no build or QC problems :) Maybe I just got lucky with my pair, but no problems so far. Will update if something goes wrong :)

45+ days w/ Sundara and no issues with build, sound, or reliability. I'm not saying problems don't exist for some, it's just that when there is an issue most folks will likely post about their issue on AZ or elsewhere. If there are no issues, most will likely not post anything anywhere. Although a few will post their happiness with a product, almost all will post their dis-satisfaction.

I sent mine back for service, they had 5-7% channel imbalance, was just not sure if it was fitment issue or what but it always bothered me.

e. aaaand got a call, multiple guys listened them at the store and they couldnt hear this imbalance... Well sundaras for sale I guess.

I've had my Sundaras for almost 3 months and no sound quality or built problems. So far the best sounding headphone I have or had. I have 7 hps right now including the Senn HD800s and HD6xx, E-MU Teaks, Fostex Thx00 Ebonies and they aren't getting any listening time. All I can say I am very happy with my Sundaras.

I'm surprised that so many people talk about the 400i having weak bass. Maybe I got a unicorn pair but mine deliver great punch, detail and extension down low. They do a better job even than my desktop setup that includes a krell preamp, class d hifi power amp capable of 400wpc at 2 ohms, deftech sm55 bookshelfs, and a svs sb-1000 sub. The fact that I can ab test and the 400i manages to go lower confuses me when I hear all the talk about the 400i having weak bass. Granted they are not amped up like my dt 770 m beyerdynamic, but they certainly can hit the lows with no problems. Listening to edm on them is extremely satisfying. The low notes in AES Dana's albums are extremely well represented using the 400i in my application. Maybe other people have other setup issues affecting the bass response, but I'm using a SMSL SU-8 and JDS Labs EL Amp with them and its a match made in heaven.

Yes, pairing is very important. I've heard superb pairings that punch 2,3 price ranges above.

I agree with this 100%. My $39 Fiio K1 amp/dac makes everything I own sound like crap, except for one headphone, the shp9500, and it sounds jaw dropping with that can. I have no idea why. the Audioquest Dragonfly Red $200 for example on my shp9500 sounds great for almost all my other cans, except shp9500, it makes the shp9500 sound too clean... the fiio k1... for example, string instruments sound so much more visceral with the k1, and the Red removes that, and ruins it for me. but my other cans the Red wins.

its all about pairing, no headphone is bad imo, it just hasnt been paired right.

my dream setup if i ever get rich: stax 009, the carbon KHGGSV from mjonir audio in iceland, and Hugo 2 TT dac.

Maybe the sabre dacs help with the sub bass. I have heard they are known for reproducing low frequencies very well. Paired with the El amp that can deliver 1.1wat rms at the 400i's rated 35 ohm might have something to do with it. I've got a magni 3 on the way for another setup, but I might throw it in this one to test against the El Amp. Since the magni 3 is rated for almost double the power at the same ohm

Yes I've noticed that too with sabre dacs. They seem to have better audible extension than every other dac I've heard. Deeper and better controlled.
