Hifiman Sundara (HE400i upgraded, around $500)

I can confirm that with Sundara and O2. On low gain I'm not reaching even 40% of volume pot to get them loud.

Sure, but (according to specs) the O2 is putting out 613 mw at 33 ohm so I'm not surprised that you only need 40% volume.

Hmmm...I don't know about that. I have the 400i and run them with a Fiio E10k and even on the low gain setting turning them up to around 60% on the dial is plenty loud...as in loud enough that I don't really want them much louder as I'd worry about hearing damage.

I think your Fiio E10k is similar in output power to the audioengine D1 (which drive my 400i's loud enough at roughly 60% volume). But my point is that I can achieve a fuller, more satisfying sound out of more powerful amps at lower volume settings. Not at all trying to say that lower powered amps are not an option.

OK. Well, I can't really argue that point. The E10k puts out 200mw@32ohms. I kinda like having a bit of range to use on the volume knob myself though...the 400i's certainly sound great to my ears as it is. I am planning on acquiring an amp with more horsepower at some point though so it will be interesting to see how they sound then...

I own the X2 and have been circling the Sundara as well. Interested to see your impressions.

Sure, I’ll make my impressions after some long listening sessions : I avoid to make comments too quickly as it takes some time to appreciate or not a headphone

It should work well. I love the pairing, now that I had more time with them.

Anyone changed here the pads in order to get a better sealing and stronger sub-bass maybe ......?

I have not tried that, but Sundara takes EQ well, if you're one to experiment a bit.

Are these easy to drive? Same as the he400s? Can't find specifications in the output power of my ar m20. I go 80 to 90% volume on my ar m20 when driving my he400s.

Thanks
It's loud enough for me with the M20. I'm sitting at around 80-90% and it sounds nice but there's not a lot of headroom. If I were only to use this setup at home (which I do) it is definitely sufficient.
