Delta Sigma DAC's are a factor of manufacturing cost not audio quality/reproduction. R2R is a very different animal and why if I opt for a DAC/Amp will be iFi as it's got to be R2R...
Hey all, I just snagged an R2R2000 red, and while it sounds truly fantastic, I'm having a couple of minor issues that I'm hoping somebody has a fix for.
1) When songs start, I think the player is cutting off maybe the first quarter of a second of the song. It's noticeable enough to be annoying, so are there any settings I can change to fix this?
2) Metadata is screwed. If I browse through "folders," songs, artists and albums appear as they should, in the right place and the right order. But if I try browsing by artist, album, or genre, things get weird. Songs from albums by different artists, usually the next artist down the list alphabetically, are being added to the wrong album. I'm using File Explorer on Windows 10 and intentionally keeping metadata pretty minimalist so that I don't create these issues, but maybe it's not working?
I'm using what I think is the most recent firmware, 2019-12-03 v1.9 beta if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Remove all the album art with the likes of Foobar 2000, then set the R2R2K to scan, should resolve the issues. R2RK isn't capable of dealing with too much heavy metadata as is a very basic OS with only one priority - playing music.

A lot have had issue with excessive metadata such as album art with such [layers, as they are not designed to read the data. I'd also check the format of the SD card versus what Hifiman recommends, think should be ExFat.

256 SD Card in my own R2R2K is formatted to exFat, album art stripped out and has played all with no issue. Welcome to the idiosyncrasy of R2R2K ownership
If that doesn't work, reset all the settings, restart, then rerun the latest FW, let the player take it's time step by step by step as is very slow with some tasks. Once sorted is well worth it to have such SQ in such a small format.
