As far I know limitations are rather down to temperature and power consumption of fully unlocked FPGA than to anything else - and honestly do not understand why would anyone need more that 24/192 fro a DAP - even if you use R2R like me mostly as a desktop DAC i struggle to understand the need for higher that 24/192 - not to mention that r2r chips perform its best in NOS setting and PCM1704 is not a high res chip.

It is mostly to feed my curiosity. However PCM1704 was always ahead of its time, way ahead of its time. Currently technology and software filtering is alot more capable than the hardware filters out when PCM1704 came out.
It can really power it, currently I seldom go further than 27 on the volume scale out of 32 with the Utopia and this is already too loud for my taste. Pairing is great in my opinion but depending on which cable I use the result will vary. Sound is a bit flat with stock cable , more enjoyable in my view with danacable. That said, the Danacable is on 4.4. and the stock I use an adapter to 3.5 unbalanced so it may come from that.
I’m ready to say R2R2K is the best sounding dap/dac I own.
While I wouldn’t be as crazy as getting a backup unit, I do hope in future i can finding something that can replace it when it dies .

We both have similar taste, except the tia fourte'. I couldn't justify the 5.5k AUD price tag. Really wanted to get the Solaris, but didn't fit me, and had fit issue with Andromeda, so went with M9, which to me is technically better than Andromeda.
I'm very tempted to get the R2R2000M, purely for redbook quality wav files.

Thanks indeed it's the U18Tzar not the fourté , i tried both but did not like the forté as well. U18t is less fun that other iems in the pic but it is quite impressive how much details you get with it on some songs. soundstage is also very big. They are slightly cheaper than fourté. Concerning the redbook quality wav files may i ask where you can get them?

U18t is a detail monster, I'm still deciding between U18t, Mellanius. Hoping to hear the Project K version of U18t, which from some is said to be something really special.
Redbook standard is just another name for 16/44.1 files.
Hifiman please fix the gapless playback so I can publish my review. This is the only product that I rate 10/10 for sound , only marking it down for other reasons.
I guess 1000ss is better value and can pair better with a wider range of IEM, but r2r2000, when it pairs well with and IEM it is done to perfection. I got lucky as I got the pairing with most of favourite IEM either via 4.4mm or 3.5mm pro.
And the size, I never liked carrying anything larger than ak120.
