anyone knows if there's any benefit of using wav over flac? I heard about the quloos qa390 being better when using wav because it doesn't put power into uncompressing the flac, apparently there's a whole firmware for it

Try the same track in both flack & wav and see if you can differentiate. QLS QA361/QA390 has specific firmware, and they were designed with such use in mind.

yeah I'll try once I have the r2r2000 back.. in theory since it's such a small device it might actually have some affect, especially considering their later devices don't even have a screen to minimize power usage and to maximize SQ

indeed.
Please explain this "beauty"))
"I don't intend further mods other than batteries.

You have a total 11 film caps in use.

The 4 x small rubicon film pmlcaps are 10uf each, the 4 x large vishay film are 0.1uf each for bypass. They are used in conjunction with the stock 4 x 141uf mlcc caps (141uf made of 3 x 47uf)

At power you have an additional 100uf Panasonic ultra low esr Poscap Tantalum polymer + a 100uf AudioNote Kaisei bypassed with a 0.1uf kemet smr film."

The n2p2000 black is here :)

With the n2p2000's significantly extended battery life doubt runtime will be an issue. What I'd like on the R2R2K is Hifiman to update the firmware to allow a 512 Micro SD card as 256 can be a squeeze at times.

a wav only firmware to maximize sq and the ability to play all songs when entering a folder with a few folders in it (for example metal -> a few bands in it) that's all i need

You should give a QLS QA361/QA390 shot as they have such dedicated FW. Wouldn't mind getting one myself :)

yeah, have thought of the qa390, it'll probably be super endgame, but ak4497.. not that there's anything wrong with it, if i have to go d/s i'd probably go akm (tho haven't tried anything rohm yet) but I'd still vastly prefer multibit r2r.

Not quite sure I'll need anything else besides the n2p2000, maybe eventually there'll be a np1000 (hm1000 mod) who knows.

as for the qa361, doubt it'll outdo the r2r2000. but interesting nonetheless :)

QA390 is a nice piece of gear and probably what I'd settle on. Like you I prefer R2R with only Sony getting close with its proprietary S-Master HX DAC/Amp. What I like about the QA390 is its very serviceable utilising standard batteries and TBH I have more than enough mobile DAP's LOL.

Right now, I happy with the gear I have and don't want to endlessly chase the next best thing. I'm happy to listen to new gear, but it needs to make an impact for me to consider the purchase. Not a fan of the DAP's that need to rely on a smartphone for control. Far preferring to have a display if just basic like the R2R2K.

definitely agree, but the hm1000 has quad pcm1704k.. that's very tempting :)

Good point but would need to be at a very good price. That said I want the player to be 100% independent. Hopefully more multibit players will hit the market :)
