Hey Head-fi'ers,

I have been reading about the Hifiman RE262 lately. It looks like everybody seems to be liking them. I especially like to try them because I have a HJE900 which I guess is somewhat opposite to RE262. My first confusion is are these headphone out yet? Because Head direct seems to be selling them for $150 on their website. (isn't that cheap?!) Also, I don't intend to use an amp while listening to these and I have a sixth gen. ipod. Has anybody tried this? Do you think this will be a problem?

thanks!

You have done a lot of reading, and you are still not sure? Do you know what you want? RE262 does not give you excitement (or speed) of HJE900, I generally don't use it with dance, hip-hop, pop, fast jazz. My dad jokes about it "old people's earphones". I like it because it does not "bug" me when I need to think or read.

First, I didn't say I don A LOT of reading. Second, I didn't say I wasn't sure. I only said I would like to give them a try. Third, I didn't say I like HJE900 and I want headphones like that. I said I want to try RE262 because they contrast with HJE900.

for 150$ it's a great price,almost a steal

an amp is supposed to improve its sound , i use it however unamped with my J3 and it sounds fine and i am very pleased - the mids/lows are really great although i could use a tad more clarity on the highs

still for 150$ i consider it a steal.

it all comes down to personal preference and what kind of sound you want - read 5-6 reviews about the 262 and you will see whether you want sth like the 262 or not

Good luck

They are available for pre-order I believe, at yes at that price, they are a steal!!

You should be ok driving from your ipod thought don't take my word for it. My cowon J3 drives it fine it but reduces the battery life significantly, so I got an Ibasso T3 anyways.

I gotta stop reading these forums.

Just put in my pre-order for the 262's.  I was already thinking about them before but I guess resistance is truly futile.

No point paying more money from something used when you can get it used and cheaper

I also have the re-zero and the re-252 and to be honest , i only use the 252/262 , as the 252 is a better zero

However the zero/262 make a nice alternate combo as the zeros have very good/clear treble so it's what kind of sound you want atm

I am constantly rotating between the 252 and the 262 and i am cured from upgraditis for the last 3 months....

(i will be hit by the virus someday i guess lol)

There is one set on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Hifiman-RE262-/170615073924?pt=Other_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item27b9736c84#ht_500wt_1156

I would also like to get a pair as well and see if they are a significant improvement over my RE-Zero.  Because the RE-Zeros came free with my Hifiman I wouldn't feel too bad if I added another RE product to my system.  And, they resell pretty easily too if I found them to be similar.

Hey dilpal, why do say they don't do well with fast, complex music? As far as I read, they have a similar EQ to HJE900. Can someone please highlight how it is different from HJE900 or say Atrios?

thanks again!

I will also say fast and complex music isn't a strength for RE262 as well. It is inherently a more relaxing and smooth sounding IEM, so fast and complex music will tend to slow down too much.
