Hi I'm trying to update my firmware for my 901. Is anyone able to kindly advise me on the set of instructions to do so and provide me link to the latest firmware? Really appreciate. Very little information of 901 stuff online

I believe the instructions are in this (& if not, the other) HM-901 thread. I believe I wrote one up last week.

Edit: jonckr, here you go :-

Thanks bro,

I've updated it to 1.0.80. Currently burning in my balanced amp board. Hm901(fresh set) does sound even better than my rwak100 which is burnt in

That Lexar card is 90MB/s! It's as fast as the Toshiba card the guys in the HDP-R10 thread were testing and said sounded better/best. Allegedly because it has less jitter. (The ones they tested were mSD cards of course and it's a different DAP, but better safe than sorry IMO.)

What about this sandisk extreme pro sd card? It has 95 mb/s read times!

I just received a mail from Head-Direct stating that the HM-901 is now available with different amp cards.

Guys, probably stupid question, but is it possible to listen on HM-901 + balanced amp card with normal headphones with normal cable or would it sound messed up?

Yes you can. There is a selector to choose if you want single ended output or balanced output.

That's a nice card for cameras, but a simple, Class 10 card has more than enough throughput for hi-rez music playback on a DAP.

Buy more GB with that money. :)

Theoretically I agree, but then there are reports from different sources saying there may be sonic improvements with higher speed cards, because they will provide less jitter.

This is not only enthusiastic head-fi'ers who says this, but also the engineer who made the Tera Player.

If the HM-901 will have less jitter with very fast cards than "normal" speed cards is yet not tested AFAIK.

Blind tested with all these on 901 and cannot say I notice any difference....

That's good to know. I see that one of the cards is 95 MB/s (the Sandisk 16GB Extreme Pro) and another one is 20MB/s. This should tell us that jitter isn't a problem with normal speed cards with HM-901. Well, unless you weren't listening close enough, ha-ha!
