I wonder why you care about this but apparently you do...so I will have to justify my head so will not scratch your head. It was too big as my only player. Now that I have the AKs...I can use them on the go. And I will have to try the 901 before I buy it. Also I was using the DX100 amped most of the time, because after trying that, I found it less satisfying unamped.

On the flip side I'd really hope Fang can improve 901's availability, stability, and built quality at least to the same level as the AK120 and I won't mind paying the same price as the AK120 to get one LOL.  The wait has really just been way toooooo long.  The longer we waited, the higher expectation we would have for the h/w & s/w quality and it aggravate the expectation gap.  
 
To Fang's credit, the RE400 actually surpassed even my really high expectation.  Fully expecting to test and then sell my pair when I purchased but this one is a keeper.  Great sound, great comfort, and great build quality.

I really don't think they will make that kind of discount but if I can get them in EU less than 1k € I am sold, my DAP searching would be finished. Also I must say in Germany preorders of 901 starts from 1200 euros

Well, only Fiio can make history in term of price/value.
According to some headfiers, X3 sounds as good as AK100 but not sure how true is that claim?

I got an email from someone whose ears I trust and they brought up that comparison and that the AK100 was better.

1) with the balanced amp is it full balanced or phase split (could be a stupid question considering a dual ES9018 but that's making an assumption)
2) any DSD capability in the future?
3) with the proprietary connector an owner is limited to Hifiman lineout cables only. Are pinouts proprietary or open (for 3rd party cable makers)?
4) heat issue during simultaneous charging & use, is it recognized as an issue & will it be fixed?

I'm sure there's more but I'm working now so can't think of anymore for the moment.

I can charge mine and listen at the same time with no heat issue. I know in the past Fang did say it should be charged while off but I have done both but it seems to need to be off to fully charge.
