In all honesty, though, the new device is expected to have glitches here and there. Still enjoyable as it is for me, mind you. Here is hoping for future updates.

Really great sound makes up for any shortcomings of the firmware. It's the best sounding DAP you can buy, and sound is more important than form or function.

I am very satisfied with their product and customer service.

V 0.15

- Last track played not remembered on power up, main menu is displayed instead

- No way of getting back to the track playing if in the main menu

- Pressing the previous key to get back to the beginning of the track has highlighted the problem with normal 16 bit FLAC getting stuck in a little loop

It seems with each firmware release the programmer is fixing one thing and breaking another and this is not being properly tested. For each release a full system test should be performed

Using the 801 has highlighted how many albums these days have one or more tracks that flow into each other and should be played gaplessly. Hopefully a fix for gapless playback is being worked on

There once was an angel of the fallen type
who shook his fist to the sky.
He's a charitable coder
but more so a music lover.
Much joy to all had Fang listened to this guy.

Rockbox is free software released under the GNU General Public License.

Since PC/notebook manufacturer can sell PC / notebook with Linux, I think that it is legal to sell products with rockbox.

However, according to GPL, you need to provide source code of the rockbox together with any modification you made to the customer.

That's right. It would be redistribution of the rockbox source code, plus any modifications to those sources for adapting it to the 801. The easiest way to do it is to offer a download from your website. You just have to make it available under the GPL, not actively ship it with the product.

Does this mean you are thinking of adding Rockbox? This would be a very good move
