What do you recommend, mate?

Thanks for sharing.

Something fenestrated so the air has somewhere to go. Dekoni makes a fenestrated sheepskin pad for hifiman series that should work. I guess there is a ZMF Ori pad that is "perforated" but not sure if that will work or not. Would love to hear from anyone that has tried that actually.

I will leave some pics. Have been using my he4xx for some weeks, but only today the last piece of the "setup" reached me. I love the headphone btw. A little sharp at high notes andn sometimes a dry bass tho. What cheap earpads are good for this ? Any on aliexpress ?

Enjoy it. Pics on s8, pro mod, without any treatment 20181215_205740.jpg

You have a lot of reasons to be happy, with the d10 coupled i have them very loud at maxed low gain. It has medium and high gain mode left, plennnnty of room to spare. The a30 has around 1.4w of power, your dx3pro has 1w, so it will also drives it pretty easily. But with the benefits of your dx3 pro being only one device and Bluetooth receiver. It measure a little better than a30 and has vely low OI being able to drive IEM's.

You are in good hands.

Yeah the only reason that put me off from A30 is the output impedance, now wanting DX3Pro for myself (I now use D10+O2)

Anyway, I just ordered these 4xx yesterday, can’t wait to get them!

Just got em!

Edited:

Quick impression: Overall good sounding for $170 but I find the treble peak around 8.5-9kHz very and prominent, like with DT770, it ruined certain trebly tracks. Guess I'll have to find new pads.

Hi all,

found a pair of used HE4XX which should arrive soon.

Any recommendations on additional (better) pads to get & eventually a better cable? Does it make sense to get a balanced cable for these or will this not be much of a difference?

Thanks all

Balanced cables depend on your player. With my DAP (Sony NW-ZX300), the balanced output is Much better than the SE output. And also much more powerful.

This is dictated by your source more than the headphones themselves, AFAIK.

I have the HE-4XX and am just running the stock pads for now but am considering new pads.

A poster on the massdrop website, "mattris," has a lengthy posting about recommending the Brainwavz XL Earpads (Hybrid, Suede, Pleather or Perforated Pleather models. You'll have to dig down to about the 10 week point to see his posting:

https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdr...ar-magnetic-headphones/talk?commentId=2251800

Getting new pads also requires getting a set of new mounting rings, which he mentions are available thru ebay via purchasing the HiFiMan Velour earpads (you take the ring off of the new pads and use it for mounting the Brainwavz-$10.00 for the set). I think HiFiMan itself sells a set of rings too for around the same price. The whole removing and mounting of the new pads on this set of cans is a bit labor intensive from what I've seen so you'll want to be up to speed. I think there's some youtube videos about this endevour.

Cables--assuming you have the latest 4XX's w/ the 2 x 3.5mm at the earcups and a DAP w/2.5MM balanced output, I bought one of these from NewFantasia:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F5XTBCP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's decent, a bit of an improvement although the micro-phonics are pretty loud and it's a stiff cable, but it is sturdy. The advantage is that, as is the case with my FiiO X5III, the balanced output has a little more wattage and gives the HiFiMan's a bit more horsepower.
