I just ordered Kimber Kables for my He1000's.

I've not used them yet but I will. After hearing them at CES I bought them.

I had a extension made for my vanquish cable. I should do it for my Silvergarde and take my HE1K's for a late night walk, with my QP1R.:)

I got an adaptor for the Pono/HEK in balanced, not quite up to my ZOTL, but pretty good (but look pretty silly walking the streets with the HEK IMO)!

Please provide some feedback once you feel they have bedded in.

For those who have gone through after-market cables on the HE1K, which cable have you settled on so far, and why?

Moon Audio.  Haven't bothered with any other cables because I liked the Moon, and they didn't break the bank.  (Well.. they may have *cracked* the bank)

What I was looking to correct was the lack of attack on snare hits and impact in the upper frequencies.  The cable did what I'd hoped so I moved on.

@reeltime: did you get the silver one or the copper one? Or the other copper one?

Silver.  Not for any reason other than:  It's the first one they came out with for the HEK.

I've heard that the HE-1000 is very "disappointing", and is beaten by the HE-6 in many ways. That honestly doesn't jive with literally every professional review of them which seemed to range from "what wonderful headphones!" to "the HE-1000 changed my life". Someone on Reddit even commented that, to him, the HE-1000 would be worth only $500. Is there truth to this, or is it probably just jealously-fueled rage-hating?

GUTB: No matter what anyone says, it's best to listen to headphones yourself (including the HE1000 and HE-6) to determine what sounds great and has high level of intrinsic value based on your individual preference(s).

Also, welcome to Head-Fi! :beerchug:

I do read some of the same things, heard the HE-6 at a meet (not the best place to evaluate, granted), not trading in my HE-1000 (ymmv and all the disclaimers, of course).

I heard the HE-1000 at a meet and the HE-6 at a meet.
Granted they were different meets and different setups (Yggy > Rag > HE-6 versus Vega > Liquid Carbon > HE1K), but I bought the HE-1000

That wonderful HiFiMAN Ann Arbor dealer, Overture Audio (come to our headphone meet Mar 26) lent me an HE-6 over the weekend for me to take home and compare to my HE-1000, using the HiFiMAN EF-6 amp designed for the HE-6.

I preferred the HE-1000 sound by a small bit, though I did appreciate the greater speed and transparency of the HE-6 that made snare drum strikes more impactful.

I would hope eventually to get an HE-6, since I already have its EF-6 amp, as a complement to my HE-1000.
