My HE-1000's left ear cup gave out after a week. Initially I was pissed off and wanted to do an out right return. But after a few days of missing its Siren Call, I decided that I will exchange it out.

Thanks Amazon Prime, for your generous painless returns policy!

My new HE-1000 should arrive on Monday.

Yup. DHC Cables, especially the Spore 4 Silver cables are special.

They gave the Abyss headphones an undeniable improvement.

I am considering purchasing the HE1000.   My favorite headphone ever is the LCD-3F.   It is the most etch free sound I ever heard.   I have a HE-6 which betters the LCD-3 in certain ways- no doubt but there is etch and I am very sensitive to it.

For the type of person who stresses smoothness and creaminess above all other features- would the HE1000 be recommended?  I realize the HE1000 wont be as full sounding as the LCD-3 but are they as grain free?

Yes, smoothness is almost the perfect one word descriptor for the HE1000. I own both and think they complement each other well, the LCD-3F has more attack or bite or whatever you want to call it, but is definately a more closed-in sounding approach. The HE1000 is more the wide open view, very smooth and allowing you to see all the instruments almost.

Hello, I just ordered a Kennerton Odin headphone; I also own a LCD3F and Stax SR-009; I have great hope that Odin meet as the best of these two headphones; much like a HE-1000, but better.

I would love to hear your pair of lcd3. From the one that I heard, he1000 would be a natural upgrade from lcd3 except creaminess. Etch and grain free check, staging and layering check, tonality check, attack check, bass check, treble check, except that mid magic which lcd3 still bit better imo.

I would agree, it's pretty much better all around, but the LCD-3 doesn't deserve a place on the shelf either, I always try to keep 2 pairs of headphones, one for pleasure (LCD-3F) and one for more critical listening (HE1000) and right now these both fit the bill perfectly for me. Not that the HE1000 can't be used for pleasure or the LCD-3F for critical listening, but I just think they both have something very unique to offer and it's worthwhile having both, neither one cancels the other out. At this point I'd say its maybe 60% head time for the HE1000 and 40% for the LCD-3F, so both are getting plenty of use still for me.

+1 Well said. I plan on keeping the HE1K and the ETHER, I feel these two cans compliment each other. I feel both headphones could be used for critical listening, however I use the HE1000 mostly for critical listening (I dislike the production headband).

For me, it is HE1000 for pure enjoyment and SR009 (driven by BHSE and Esoteric K-01) for critical listening and enjoyment. For well-recorded albums the SR-009 still sounds best to my ears but HE1000 sounds quite good even with recordings which are a tad worse.

I think the HE1000 and SR-009 complement each other nicely. To me the SR-009 nice is like a refreshing drink in a hot summer day and the HE1000 is like a cozy blanket in a winter evening.....
