@jelt2359, I don't know if you want to do this, but since the threads were merged together again, some of the links to the impressions aren't working anymore since the thread they used to be in no longer exists. I think only one of my posts and @Iron_Dreamer's post doesn't work though.

Also, I think it would be beneficial to put the links of the impressions that you created with the second HE-1000 forum (on page 188 of this thread) with the other impressions on the first post of this thread.

I keep reading conflicting reviews on how easy they are to drive. I'm sure I read around the time when people first had chance to listen that somebody was using a portable fiio and they sounded amazing through that. Now Fang is saying the Chord Hugo isn't good enough to drive them. That's a 2 grand amp. I mean, am I taking funny pills? Is he just saying that to ensure people purchase a HIFIMAN amp or what?

Hugo is not an amp though it has some amping power but might very well not be enough for he1000

this. it's power ratings specs aren't that impressive.

600 ohms 35mW
300 ohms 70mW
56 ohms 320mW
32 ohms 600mW
8 ohms 720mW
cannot even output a watt of power at any resistance.

Crucially, Hugo can be used as both a portable headphone amp/DAC as well as a reference-level standalone DAC in a static system.

Oh sorry I thought it was both.

it does work as a portable amplifier, but not that powerful. less than a watt throughout all impedance ranges.

edit: I don't think the he1000 needs a hellalotta power like the he-6, but generally people recommend at least 1w for orthos

The amp that many pit against Hugo due to excellent DAC---the iFi micro iDSD...has 10V, 4W@16ohms. Not a typo...lol

I'm so utterly clueless on amps. But what I do know is that I've done a lot of back and forths with my o2 and many other amps now, and preferred my o2 every time - with the hd800, lcdx and lcd3

Is this one of those unspoken things on headfi?

Am I gonna get strung up by my curlies for saying that I'm now weighing up the lcd 3 and future he-1000 as my next buy and have every intention to use my o2 with them?

Lol...have same experience with you...compared it to other amps, with other HPs, and guess what, I always end up with the O2. I understand perfectly why some hate NwAVGuy...

I think it's great because you're making decisions based on your own experiences and preferences and not the opinions of others.
