True-but some CRAZY people like me seem to enjoy the "tedious and long process."

With the cost of the Lyr2 and lots of tube rolling you could have been well on your way to eventually saving up for a Ragnarok.

That's one of the big reasons why I sold the amp. I only had a few set of tubes and they came out to around the msrp of the amp. Of course I didn't have as many as some others here but to each their own.

On another note, I tried balanced with my amp yesterday and it sounded really good. My amp purchase seems to be well spent. There's nothing worse than researching for an amp and it doesn't sound as good as you thought it would be.

On the portable issue, the cayin c5 is a nice choice or the Hifim8. But....I really love the geek out with my laptop. Lots of used ones popping up due to new v2 coming out( some day) new campaign and all. It has fantastic balance and detail. I've got the 450 version which shouldn't be sufficient but ...it's really good . I would recommend the GO 1000

Gustard H10 should be mentioned as well. It really synergies with the HE-560. When you take into account the inevitable tube rolling you'll do with the Lyr2 and Ember II, I don't think you can do better for the price (especially used).

But if I had the money, I'd buy those three amps and do a detailed comparison review.

There's a poster that uses Gustard AND Lyr2. Seems to depend on the type of music. Liu Junyuan-I think
You can read a bunch of impressions in the H10 amp thread. IIRC, general consensus is that Lyr2 is slightly more dynamic but H10 is more refined/more musical/better timbre. I certainly love the HE-560 with mine, but I haven't owned many amps.

OT but I want to see it against the Cavalli Carbon to keep it SS only once it's released.

What amps do you guys think pair the best with the HE-560 and provide sufficient power? I have the Magni 2 Uber but on high gain and it seems a little underpowered.

For portable play, I can't get enough of the CEntrance Hifi M8. Plenty of smooth, distortion free power.
For home stereo, my Burson Soloist always exceeds my expectations.

Did try the LC in Nashville on my 560's versus the Ether, fantastic amp, especially balanced.
