650s were great, but it is pretty hard to not realize the 560 most certainly surpass their ability across the board, personal preferences aside of course.

Apologies if this has been discussed at length already. It seems like the Sennheiser HD 650 has a huge following and is one of the most talked about full-size headphones around. For those of you that have experience with both the HD650 and the HE-560, do you find you miss (or still enjoy) listening to your HD650's?

The reason I ask, I skipped over the HD650 and went right for the HE-560. So far I'm having a great time with them but wonder if I should have experienced the HD650 along the way (or if I still should pick one up).

Sold my HD650s when my 560s arrived, they do everything better. I kinda see the 560s as right in the middle ground between the 650 and the 800. I am in audio nirvana now with the combination of my 560 and the Grado PS1k, they compliment each other quite well, IMO.

@Wildcatsare1, just curious. does that mean you are not planning on getting the Ether?

Actually thinking of selling my LCD-2.2. Whaddya think?  560 gets me LCD-2.2 at 30% less weight.

Anyone here compare 560 vs. HD700?

They should be different signatures no?I've heard a bunch of various versions of the LCD 2. I don't know which one is the 2.2 but they all sounded different than the 2.2. Either way if you feel the 560 does it then selling it would be a good option to free up some funds that you could use or buying something else.

I only heard the HD700 once and didn't like it after 5 minutes to give it another shot.

I've read that the 700 takes the best of HE-6 without the treble peak, and melds that with LCD-2.

I tried to like the HD700's but found the treble to be overwhelming. What didn't you like about them?

The metallic treble and sibilance. That and the premium over the HE-500 wasn't worth it. They seem to go pretty cheap and unnoticed here now. There's a reason for that.

Personally, the three HPs I really enjoy in combination with the 560 are the Grado PS1k, GS 1k, or the T1. The HE6 is too close to justify, and I honestly prefer the three above to the HD 800/700. Just my .02 cents....

Thanks for all chiming in. I had T1 for 3 months, then sold it. Too bright and clinical, to my ears.
May try to audition the 700 sometime. The 560 is neutral for sure, which is a +++.

Interesting, I like my PS500 too. Darker than most Grados. But still an audio microscope in a good way.

Since owning the HE-560s, I've purchased 3 different cables for it with Balanced connectors.

1) Cardas standard 4 wire.
2) Gotham quad cable
3) An expensive C10100 silver coated OFE copper cable.

After lengthy listening sessions with each cable over days, weeks, months the best synergy between cable and phones
goes to the Cardas cable. It is the most tonally correct to my ear. It seems to have the least grunge of the 3 cables with a touch more midrange and treble extension. Never sibilant. Always smooth, yet resolute. Near zero listening fatigue!

The Gotham cable was almost identical sounding to the original but maybe a touch smoother.

The C10100 cable is the brightest of all but never edgy. A bit harder edged than the other two but never going to edginess.a touch more open than the other two. A bit to hard for me, but maybe more break in is called for. Not sure.

Having said this, the HE stock cable is a decent cable. I could've lived with it but I wanted to take these phones to the Nth level. I could live with any of these cables though.

All three of these cables were a major improvement over the HE-400i stock cable! The stock cable may be the same as the HE-560 cable, but does not perform as well with
the 400is. The 3 aftermarket cables take that headphone much closer to the performance of the HE-560. The 560 still has tighter bass and smoother, more extended high end. The 400i excels with vocals.

Somebody on this thread had earlier AB'ed a Cardas cable with stock SE for 560. Apparently, no diff. But good to know all these cabling candies. I think I've maxed out; with my gear, cables would only give a 1% change (not always for the better!). Law of diminishing returns, I suppose.
