A bit off topic, but if Hifiman isn't completely phasing out the HE-4, HE-400, HE-6 just yet... would they attempt to sell them with the HE-560/400i's shell, instead of the older ones? Basically wondering if they'd consider (for example), an HE-400i but with the HE-4's drivers instead.

IIRC they're phasing out the HE-500, but I didn't hear anything of the HE-4 and HE-6, or even the standard HE-400.

I believe they new ergonomics and aesthetics would breathe new life to the older line due to the massively improved comfort, assuming they're not sitting on a huge surplus of these headphones.

If anything, I expect modders to remove the 400i's drivers and use the 500's or HE-6's drivers instead... for the sake of science. Or is the design too different inside? I know nothing about DIY.

I'm wondering how close it is to the Alpha Dog in terms of sound signature. By all I've read, it sounds like an open alternative for those who love the Alpha Dog.

I've got a feeling the screw points or pattern might be different. Never even checked between the older models to be honest as there was no use of interchangeable cups.

If people would take pics of their drivers from under the pads by removing then, we can see how the screw patterns are.

If anyone knows, it'd be Jerg. I trust he'd be the first to find out.

FWIH, the cups are basically the same as the old ones, so I'm wondering how much of this translates to the inside. The HE-4 being the only other single-sided magnet headphone would be the best candidate...

i heard that the he-560 dosent need a strong amp to sound good. what will be the best amp for him? lyr2 maybe?
I pretty enjoy pairing the he560 with vali. But i have a very strong feeling that the he560 wants a more powerful amp for it to sing.

You went from hearing that it doesn't need a strong amp, and then mentioning the Lyr 2 which is a monster of an amp...

Strong =/= expensive.
Plenty of solid HE-560 amping contenders under 500$

step down. if you have a good speaker amp that is, a properly drive HE-6 outperforms the HE-560, I found the HE-560 by itself to be a good alternative however, being more trebley than the HE-500 and improving all around, I would probsbly still choose HE-500 though, and I prefer HE-6 over all.

the 560 is also better than the garbage Oppo is pushing...

Agree.
A properly amped set of HE-6 are tough to beat along the HifiMAN line.
HE-500 were a disappointment for me.  [I easily preferred the HE-5LE, and strongly preferred the HE-6, to the HE-500.]
Don't feel like I am missing out on anything, then, by foregoing the HE-560.

Disagree.
The Oppo PM-1 take a different sonic approach/direction and, IMHO, are a quality product and a uniquely enjoyable listen in their own right.  They can, for example, achieve a level of dynamic and tonal nuance that even the HE-6 [IMHO] cannot.

Well even straight out from a portable Hugo I prefer HE6 over HE560, not to mention it will be able to scale better.  Having said that HE560 is very good, soundwise IMO much better than PM1 and LCD2 (fazored) and should be top choice for many.  Wish they had stick with the teak cups....

when did you attempt to try to buy the headphones? and did you see an add to cart button, or notify me when available?

Yes, I did both, then tried again to load it in my cart, plus called many times and left messages.
