Not to dis the HD800 or anything but for my personal taste, I was not impressed with the HD800 at the CA meet yesterday.  Whether or not the big studio 6 is good pairing with HD800, I am not sure.

i know that is the he-500 thread and sorry for this but i had two hd-800. sincerely i prefer the he-500 and save some €€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€

i much prefer HD 800 though i really enjoy my HE-500 as well, and it hasn't been sold despite owning several other more expensive headphones

would be so much cheaper if i could still do the one headphone thing...

like when i only owned HD 650 and a cheap budget amp

we are who we decide.is the right choice to only one headphone as well as the possibility to have more headphones depending on the music

I have both HE-500 and HD 800 and at the moment I like them about equally. I'm sure a winner will emerge over time, though.

i prefer hd 800 as i like immersive music which could use a large soundstage... i like music all around me and all that stuff... he500 are great though and i am not gonna sell them... i have given up on upgrading now, a huge waste of energy and a huge waste of life, infact

+1

Some find collecting very rewarding. Some find discovering only that "one" rewarding as well. Thankfully neither of the two choices is wrong.

Though I'm sure manufacturers prefer the collectors :)

I too like the HD800, because I'm a masochist, and don't want to hear in 4 years time

It was weird that I was just not receptive to the sound of the HD800.  I tried it with most of the amps at the meet which are quite high end ones.
I really wanted it to sound good for my taste so I can justify buying it as my next purchase :) but it just didn't happen for me.  But then, I found a modded W1000x and a DT880 600 Ohms very enjoyable and suitable for what I am after.

Maybe you simply prefer a hefty bottom end and intimate midrange, neither of which HD800s offer (relatively speaking), despite all their strengths in other aspects of sound quality.

Jerg, I thought about that too but then I still like my Q701 very much.  Most people would say the Q701 and HD800 share somewhat similar sound signature with the HD800 being the better one of course.  I probably have to wait till a local head-fier's HD800 come in next week and try it again at home in a more relaxing, familiar environment.
