who are you talking to?

Hahahaa. To himself? He couldn't just post something and not get any response to it. We need more members like him/her who just talk to themselves :)

By the way, does everyone else also wear the HE-500 in the "smallest" vertical setting (can't push the cups up any higher toward the headband)?  Even in their smallest setting they are just barely small enough to fit my head.  Any larger and the cups sink past the tops of my ears.

Is this headphone made for giants?

(But I love it oh so very much)

yes that's the only reason i even added the extra padding to mine.  it was actually not enough space even at the smallest setting

I have to move mine about halfway down. I'm big.

Yeah, same with the HE-400, but that's even worse as my 500

Yeah I have all my Hifiman headphones on smallest setting, I wish I could wear them slightly higher.

What kind of padding did you guys add (for those of you who added padding)?  I've broken in the pads to my head now so it fits pretty well, but the whole reason I didn't add more padding in the first place was because I really like the memory type foam that's used inside the headband.  Its really comfortable.

I use a HD650 headband cushion on mine and FA-003 leather pads and have them on about 50% setting

Decided to measure my Hifimans today

HE-400 (35Ω): L: 28.1 & R: 33 - hmmm
HE-500 (38Ω): L: 39,3 & R: 38

HE-400 L channel seems out of spec, indeed. Havent you noticed anything regarding sound quality before measuring them?

i think if you google sennheiser headband you can see a few different ones.  i think the one i use is from the 4xx series? Not sure.  It looks really similar to the 650

The left channel is quieter, luckily I have a dual mono amp. The HE-400 L driver didn't work when it arrived, then I repaired it myself.
But I don't really use the HE-400 too much so it doesn't bother me, I expected it to mesure wrong on the L channel

I'm happy that the HE-500 is ok, that's more important

What headphone amplifier do you use? And with witch cable (for the dual-mono configuration), please?

By the way, you should really send your HE-400 to HiFiMan's support, they are great! And will probably supply you a new one.

It's a LaFigaro 339 dual mono OTL amp. It has a SE out, so a normal cable.

After over a month's worth of research and trying to decide which cans to buy I will be joining the HE-500 Club real soon.  Ordered a pair from Headroom today and had them shipped overnight!  Just got my tracking #!  Can't wait to compare with my HD650 tomorrow.
