Can someone tell me where to buy in europe an essembled good 2m cable for the Hifiman He-500 for about 40-50 bucks, please?
I'm sick of my current broken cable not working even after trying to fix it many times.

He said he made it using cable from Kimber Kable. Very high quality stuff if you're looking into a DIY cable.

Thanks. I thought Kimber had different models.

Just a shout out if anyone has the grills for these. I need a replacement set including the plastic rings.

You can order these from Hifiman store.

Ah, I see.

If it helps, I know that these guys are the official Kimber Kable dealer in Sweden: http://www.audioconnection.se/KimberKable.htm

According to the Kimber guys, they've had a bit of a problem with counterfeits, so be wary of the source. (At Axpona, they showed me a fake so good it actually looked even better than their cable (at least the lettering on it did)).

My cable came from Russ Andrews in the uk. It looks like four lengths of pbj platted going to twisted pair for last 45cm. If you order the bare cable, remember to add half as much length again as required due to the tight platting.

I stripped this from another set of phones and completely rebuilt it. Just take your time and don't forget the Valium when you get to those pathetic connectors. I thought five pin dins were bad Ha Ha these are such a bad design it's a joke.

If it helps, I found it best to take a sharp knife and scrape a taper in the centre pin hole and very carefully cut the insulation into a taper so that it could be fed in. Once it will slide in OK bare a couple of mm of cable and reaper the insulation. Don't be in a rush, the integrity of the connection depends on being exact.

Hope this helps

Gwyn :)

Just buy some 4tc speaker cable secondhand, that gives you four strands of pbj ready platted, just unwind 45cm and retest into pairs. After doing a continuity test to determine the correct pairs.

Some fancy braid, heat shrink and connectors then sit back with a big silly grin

Not covered by warranty?

Not covered by warranty?

I admit it was my fault i didn't think of warranty at that time and tried to repair it myself (actually i gave it a coworker of mine who solders all the time). But the cable was so petite and short also, it doesn't matter now because my warranty is gone and now I'm looking somewhere else.
