Subbed. Cannot wait for some more impressions and reviews. Highly considering these as an upgrade over my Philips X1.

Well, my demo unit comes with the Focus pads.
Also, here's a PM I received from team HiFiMAN when I asked about the matter:

"Hi, the HE400i come with the focus pad.
thanks"

I hope for some measurements or positive impressions of HE-400i with different pads...

... because I cannot stand Focus pads and if HE-400i are only gonna sound good with these pads, I simply cannot buy them (as much as I want them, these pads are just tragic).

^ Well, do you find the Focus-A any better?
I am afraid you're in the minority, unfortunately :/ Most of us find the Focus/Focus-A superior to the previous HiFiMAN pad offerings, so I don't really see a desire for pad-rolling.
That said, best of luck in achieving your comfort satisfaction

I find the Focus-A better for comfort, too.
My ears touch the Focus pads, while they could fit underneath the Focus-A ones.

And if you find the space underneath Focus-A pads too small, there are some simple modding options (like what I did but I won't talk about it for the time being).

I don't like Focus Pad and Focus Pad A because of:

1) small depth
2) small inner diameter
3) over-heating
4) weird top velour material

Can you design a modification that could overcome all of these issues while making the HE-400i very good soundwise, jerg?

 LOL

(and no, I am not exaggerating... even Audeze leather pads are less overheating and more comfortable... the new Hifiman pads just suck completely, sorry. I like all the previous Hifiman pads but the new ones just don't work for me AT ALL.)

1) Yeah a bit
2) not to my ears
3) any fully-sealing earpad will be like this
4) these have way more refined velour material than velour pads before

I'd mod the pads but not targeting these points, except maybe #1.
