Thanks for the info. I'm about to purchase a he-400 but thinking of waiting for the he-400i if its going to replace to he-400 for the same price. Well, i should settle for the 400.

 
Nah the HE-400 wasn't always $299.  I'm pretty sure it was $499 once upon a time, correct me if I'm wrong.  Also people are saying the HE-400i is much closer to the HE-500 than the HE-400, which means the sound signature is different than the HE-400.

If they are anything like HE-4 and HE-500 then it would make sense. Those are different enough to nicely complement each other.

You're lucky that you can make that approach work. I do the bills and Budget is currently so tight with 2 kids in college & in the middle of a DIY bathroom remodel that SO would notice and I'd lose her trust; but she's generous at Xmas, BD, and Father's Day....so it works
