Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

From what I gathered when comparing, the 560 is on the brighter side due to the increased treble

On another note, was hoping ZMF would be having a BF deal on the Ori pads lol. No such luck

I might be selling my 400is with the Ori Pads soon if you're interested.

I was having trouble finding many reviews on the 400i vs the 560.
Own the 400 and the 400i.
The few articles I've read seem to suggest that the. 560 has less bass and more clarity than the 400i. Does this sum it up.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Depending on the track the HE560 can appear to have less perceived bass than the HE400i but with tracks that go down low the HE560 will appear to have more bass since its extended lower than the HE400i. HE560 is the more resolving headphone with better clarity but its also less forgiving of sub-par tracks and is more picky with amps than the HE400i. My modded HE400 has bass that goes as low as the HE560 but has more quantity and appears to have more clarity than the HE560, its one reason I still keep it and its less picky when it comes to amps.

My quick comparison between the 400i & 560. To me the main difference is the 560 sounds fuller, like the music has a more layered sound. More depth. I honestly enjoy the sound of both cans. I think they're both hard to beat for the current (sale) prices.

The HE560 has quite a bit larger soundstage, cleaner midrange, less midbass, more subbass better clarity, better treble exterior and is also less prone to sibilance. The lesser amount of midbass presence makes them a bit brighter sounding but also much cleaner. In total the HE560 is a solid upgrade over the HE400i to me but it's also pretty different in its overall signature so it may not suite everyone. As already mentioned the HE560 is also more sensitive to source quality and amplifier used.

imho, and I only had a short time with the 560, the above seems more accurate than "560 has less bass and more clarity than the 400i.". My general impression was that it sounded like a smoother 400i, which slightly improves on pretty much everything of the 400i. 'solid' is a bit subjective, but imho it was like a better sounding 400i. (Note: my Schiit modi/magni stack vs high end Chord dac/amp for 560 might also skewed my opinion of 400i/560...)

One thing you might want to consider though, Hifiman I think was about to release a new model, yeah, the Sundara (https://www.head-fi.org/threads/hifiman-sundara-he400i-upgraded-around-500.860413/), in december... Might be worth it to wait a few weeks? Who knows how it'll compare to 560, or what it might do to 560 pricing...

Thx will do. Even tho the 400i is very nice and I'm sure unbeatable under $400. It's a little fuzzy at times with instrument sounding a little off.

I've got to say that I'm puzzled every time I read someone saying then the HE400i and HE560 sounds similar. To my ears there's a bigger difference in overall sound signature between the two than between the HD700 and HD800S. Those two does share the same general sound signature which I wouldn't say about the Hifimans.

I'm wondering if unit variations, listening environment (especially if just demping in a shop), expectation bias, the fact that the HE560 needs a lot more power or something else is the reasons for the difference people report.
