Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

Just finished read all the thread and i was close to press the buy now button a hundred time but always find something telling me to just keep reading ...

I've now a Q701, which i like but i def want something with more impact in the bass section, my taste are mostly female vocal, pop, jazz, edm, and sometimes classical .. i never heard a planar headphone but i remember hearing planar speaker and i loved the definition and details.

Right now i just cant decide between the 400 and 400i... i know 400 wont be as "neutral" as 400i but they are like 1/2 the price and they gonna get off the market quite soon ..

Just give me your opinion about that :

if i keep the Q701, does the 400 would be a good complementary headphone ? Or should i sold it  and get the 400i ?

Does the 400 and 400i are so different with sound signature or that 's overrated in reviews ?

About the 400, shoud i be worried that it makes the treble harsh and sibiliant ?
Thanks

lol... I actually had both the q701 and he-400. I got both thinking that they would be good compliments to each other.

Honestly, I hardly ever used the q701 after I adjusted to the HE-400. I personally just enjoyed the he-400s more. If you don't have problems with the q701's treble, I don't think the he-400s treble would really bother you either.

I personally think you should sell your q701 and just get the new he-400i. Comfort makes a huge difference in real life and you only have one pair of ears afterall. =P

  Its my birthday!!!

And iv'e decided on some 400i's!

I will be mainly runnincg through a macbook pro, listening to jazz and classical..

What is best dac amp combo with macbook pro and 400i's?

I've been listening to a lot of contemporary jazz from a 2012 macbook pro. It actually does really well on its own, but ended up getting Digizoid's ZO FS to see what it was about. I'm no DAC/amp expert, but to me the FS is sounding really *really* good with the 400i's.

Have put about 50 plus hours on the 400i's now and they are getting better and better! I am listening to them now through my Cayin HA-1A amp fed by a Beresford Bushmaster MK II dac from iTunes on my iMac playing iTunes ALAC files. Listening to a Cuban guitarist named Benise and the driving beat of his music is simply gorgeous with this combo. The slam and timing is simply breathtaking! I am a very happy camper and glad I bought these on recommendation from a local supplier(Thanks George @ Addicted To Audio)and forum advertiser.
Enjoy the music!

The HE-400i have an amazing speed and ability to convey bass. Vocals sometimes seem subdued though, they're a somewhat dark sounding headphone to me. Treble extension is excellent, bells, chimes, idiophones or all kinds just sound amazing with them. Any resonant instrument is beautiful, really.

So I just ordered this this morning, is it a good match with the Fiio E12 or Objective2?

The 400i amps with just about anything. But it does show some scale with power, so I'd pick the e12 between those two.

best,

Hi I used the Fiio e12 to run my demo set of HE-400I, and they sounded great. I never turned the volume past 12 a clock position.

That's great! I see that you have a Schiit Lyr 2, do you use it with the HE-400i's as well?

Yes t use lyr 2 to run HE-400i, and the synergy between the amp and the headphones is fantastic. The best tube for the lyr2 to run the HE-400i was the Telefunken E88CC tubes., which add detail and fine detail to the sound signature of the 400i. However I have used gold lion tubes , which are good budget tubes, that make the HE-400i sound signature sound warm and fun to hear. Please have a great time listening to great tunes, May the moment seem to last forever.

Is there anywhere to report scammer? One contacted me on WTB add. I did leave a negative feedback, but should I report it somewhere?

Just click on the little red flag at the bottom left of the post.
