Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

does anyone know if it is confirmed that the new headphones will use the same connectors

It hasn't been confirmed or denied yet in any post, picture, or interview that I've seen. My guess is it will be the same considering all the pictures showcasing the same connector. But Hifiman actually listens to their customers, so beyond more speculation, we'll just have to keep waiting.

connectors will remain mostly the same. we made some slight adjustment to try to make it easier to attach and detach, but mostly it's the same connector.

Can we expect any other modifications to the cables for the 400i? The Canare's currently shipping with the HE-400 come apart because of the twisting force created by the SMC connectors. The same twisting force seems to cause channel cut-outs when they get loose. They are also probably much longer than necessary, and stiff.

Yes will there be any change in the cables included with the 400i/560?
I personally liked the cable you used to use with the HE-5 [the silver sleeved one] but I guess it was too expensive :/
It is the one I bought used and liked with the HE-6 more than the copper one.
A pic for reference:

awww man same screw ons...

if you are reading this hifiman its okay to conform.. mini xlrs are the way to go! I have never been so scared that I would break a connector as with the hifimans...sometimes being original is a sacrifice of practicality.

on the other hand thanks for providing us affordable quality! and despite the connectors I am in.

Does anyone know if it is easily driven like the 400. they say the 560 is loud enough from a phone.

so many questions!!! including the all predicted bass! then mids!

this is just my opinion but the he400 and he500 were the nicest looking cans I have ever had here, well the x1 looks a little better but my wife and everyone that came by tripped on how cool the hifimans looked.

Hmm. I'm tempted to sell my HD600 and HE400 to get the 400i. Does anyone know if the 400 velour pads would fit the 400i?

The pads should be backwards compatible.
Though the new velour and leather pads should be significantly better.

No one has commented on this, but its interesting that the upgrade for He-400 is the He-400i and the upgrade for He-500 is the He-560. Kind of makes the He-400i seem more of an sidegrade than an actual upgrade in my opinion. I hope I'm wrong though.

I see the 400i as the improved version of the 400, where the 560 is more an addition to the current line-up.

Peter from HiFiMAN has stated several times that the 400i isn't going to sound like the HE-400, but rather is going to sound closer to the HE-500. He's also said that both models will be replacing the HE-400 and HE-500, not an addition.

HE-400i replacing HE-400 and at the same time not sounding like it is a bad idea to me.

But the HE-400i sounding more like a HE-500 in a lighter, less expensive and more comfortable package doesn't sound like a terrible idea, either  It's not like it'll be hard to find a used HE-400. Maybe they will compliment each other very well?
