It won't affect diaphragm control with planars. Can explain to you later when I'm back home.

Yea I have used the eq on the e17 and it does a nice job, but when docked with the e09k I use the lo-bypass pure dac function. when the e17 is docked like this all functions other than dac are turned off. also it is just a bit of a hassle to change the eq because I am constantly changing between my d600 ,he400, and q701. I know this is an extremely lazy reason to complain but...lol.

kenshinhimura & Okamoto Thanks for the advice, I didn't notice much of a difference between e17 alone vs fiio combo but I just wanted to get the most out of my He-400. These are my first orthos so not sure of much about them.

Davidsh I am lokking forward to your breakdown of what will happen with the diaphragm control!

Any reports on the HE400 with tube amps? Does it smooth teh tizz?

The tizz is somewhat smoothed out by my Bravo Audio Ocean amp. The Mullard valve I put in it also helps bloom out the mids a touch.

A few members have used the Aune T1 with their HE-400s.  I'm not sure which members are, but it was indicated 3 or 4 months back.  There's an Aune T1 in the FS thread for about $170.00.  It has a DAC built into it, too.

Edit: I also see that the F/S forum has Aune T1 (in silver) for $140 + shipping.

Hi all! I just got the he400 after giving up on the hd650 due to lack of a snappy bass.

anyways, I'm currently running a e09k/e17 combo, but I've read (from NwAVguy) tbat the output impedance of the amp should be less than 1/8th the headphone impedance.

In this case the 35ohm impedance of this headphone is too low for the 10 ohm impedance of the e09k. Is this 1/8th rule the same for planars or am I good to go with the e09k?

Will explain tomorrow. Short answer: damping factor should not affect planars much at all.

Just wanted to pop in here to report that the 400's being driven off of a Fiio E7 then through a Zo 1 on the first bass boost setting is just sublime.  I am a bit of a basshead, so I need a bass boost for almost all phones. This combination is just so good. So much detail and pounding bass for EDM. I will also say classical sounds outstanding as well...like I am no longer wearing headphones, but listing to my home speakers.
